Homelink in Maranello Dome Lamp

Scott Wheeler of Radar-Mirror fitted a Homelink garage door opener system into my 575M's dome light assembly. Required him to cut the lower left corner of the interior of the bulb holder surround to fit, but overall a pretty neat fit. I will have it wired through the driver's reading lamp so I can be sure it will cause no drain on the battery when not in use. Will require me to hit the lamp switch first and then the button, but that is no big deal. Cost for the conversion $299. For the purists, I have a spare dome light assembly, so the next owner can change it back if he likes. Takes about 5 minutes to remove the assembly from the headliner.

First photo shows the underside with the Homelink system in the lower left corner, expoxied in, and the two wires to power the system. Second photo shows the way she fits in the 575M, with the lamp cover removed. Last photo shows the complete assembly with lamp cover, three Homelink buttons, and LED indicator.

Originally thought to put it in my rear view mirror, but that would have required running power to the dome light assembly. Much simpler this way and easier to reverse.

Nice job Terry

I don't know much about the homelink, but is there a code or such that if that control lost power that the code is lost? Don't see a battery backup.

Rik- It is a rolling code so losing power should not affect it. Once powered and the button depressed, it just goes to the next code. The EPROM does not lose its memory when power is turned off.

Very clean installation Taz; from how far away can you actuate your garage door?

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.

John- Have not installed it yet. Trying to decide if it will drain current if wired so it has power all the time. If I think so, will wire it through the driver's reading lamp. If not, through the door opening lamp hot wires.
