Charcoal is lighter than the 8500 Nero color, sort of light black or very dark gray. With red stitching it actually looks pretty good, but I think the cuoio seats will look much better, especially with Daytona pattern charcoal stripes. Charcoal with red stitching shown in dash shot below.
Yes, headliner is important, but easily forgotten - it "puts some space" between you and the roof. My CLK is actually much more like charcoal / cuoio, Terry, so here is a preview of your new interior (ignore the wood)!

To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the quality of the work, but, yes, it does look very nice and gives the whole car a lift. It is actually beige rather than cuoio, but I am sure that it would look just as good in black / cuoio. I did it because I find all-black interiors too claustrophobic for my liking, preferring something a bit lighter. Starting with all-black, you can re-trim as much or as little as you like, panel by panel, to come up with your personal interpretation of "black and tan" (though this might not appeal to the Irish contingent!!). It's a colour scheme I first encountered when I bought a second-hand Merc CLK500 about 8 years ago (I still have it). That inspired me to spec. my current Merc E-class estate in a similar colour combo, and I was very pleased with the rsult. So when I found my 550 in Rosso / Nero, I realised what could be done with an all-black interior as a starting point.

The little tray on the tunnel is perfectly useless - anything you put in it flies across the car the first time you go around a corner! The one next to the gear lever looks far more useful.

that's a wonderful re-trim. Don't think I have seen a "black to black/beige" before. Very nice.

John, lovely CLK, though the leather looks much closer to the beige in my 412 than the cuoio in my 575
