612 Engine.

I have seen a number of different stories staying the engine in the 612 is based on the 575M. I was under the impression that it was based on the 599. Have I been wrong all this time?

Yup, you sure have. Many shared parts between the 575M and 612 and same bore and stroke, displacement, cambelt drives (599 has chains), valvetrain parts, etc.

That was my impression as well.

The 612 engine was derived from 550 / 575M engines, which used the rubber belts. The 599 and later V12s were derived from the chain-driven Enzo engine I believe.

The early 612 engine is only slightly changed from the 575M. Main differences are ECU programming and intake and exhaust manifolding. 575M engine Type F133E, early 612 Type F133F, late 612 Type F133H.

The 612 engine came out in 2003, so is Type F133F. The Superamerica engine did not appear until 2004/5, and was the Type F133G.

The Enzo engine has variable valve timing and chain drive and is Type F140B. The productionized version in the 599, with features like steel connecting rods instead of titanium, was from the same family and had a Type 140C engine.

Very interesting. Has there ever been a document that shows the engine names/model types for each road going Ferrari produced?

I think it would be interesting to see the family tree, so to speak and see how the engines progressed from model to model.

Barry- There may be something similar on the other site. I remember filling in some of the blanks for Carbon on engine type and chassis type.
