F512 M Wheels on 550 Maranello

Does anyone have an opinion or experience on the possibility of fitting F512M wheels on my 550 Maranello? They are the most beautiful of all Ferrari wheels, IMO....The bolt pattern is the same, the diameter is the same at 18'' and the differing offsets seem to be able to be resolved with spacers.....

But I am a new guy here, and really need some help from the veterans on the site, before I step on my dick....

My main concern is this: the rear 512M wheels are the same width as the 550 wheels, at 10 1/2''
BUT the front 512M wheels are 8'' wide, as opposed to 8 1/2'' for the 550.

Would this small 1/2'' difference in width at the front wheels be a major issue for the handling or performance of the Maranello? I do nothing but Sunday drives and car shows, no tracking or insane speeds....

Here are the two sets of specs, for you tech guys to ponder:

550 Maranello....Front 8 1/2 J x 18ET 43.65 mm offset
Rear 10 1/2 x 18ET 32 mm offset

F512M Front 8 J x 18ET 46mm offset
Rear 10 1/2 J x 18ET 81.75 mm offset

Maybe the contact patch on the front would be pretty much the same with a proper front tire selection?

Thanks for any help from out there!!

Charles- Welcome to Ferrari Life. I would never fit narrower than OEM wheels on any Ferrari, but that is just my personal opinion. The rear wheels differ in offset by ~2" (49.75 mm) and would look very inset in the wheelwells without something like 2" spacers.

Here are all the modern Ferrari wheel sizes if you want to look at other combinations. All the V8 wheels with 5x108 mm bolt pattern are too narrow.

Taz...... thanks very much for your message, which I have read carefully. The 2'' spacers on the back are an easy fix, as they are available in very strong material, and the rear F512M wheels are exactly the same width as the original 550 rears.

I respect your opinion on the change to a ''narrower wheel on any Ferrari'', but do you think that such a small difference, namely 1/2 '' smaller would even be noticeable at the contact patch or in any other way?

Again, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with me.....Charles P.S. Been trying to buy a set of original modular 18's for my 550, or even a set of 19's, as on the SuperAmerical, but no luck at all....any leads?

Taz....forgot to ask you you opinion on the offset difference on the fronts.....43.65 on the 550 fronts as opposed to 46 on the 512M fronts....would this 2.35 mm difference require spacers, it being such a small amount?? Thanks again for your help!! CharlesA.

Charles- The narrower front wheels will tend to make her understeer more, even with OEM 255/40 18 tires fitted, and braking on the front weight compromised 550 will suffer slightly. Owners have fitted V8 wheels to the 456/Maranello, but those are too narrow everywhere and at least one owner changed back to OEM spec wheels because the handling sucked.

Sets of the modular 18" and 19" wheels run $6-8K used now that Chris at Exoticar sold his last set of new 18" modulars ($4500, you missed out). Contact him and see if he has a set or can find one.
