Bulbs

Not able to find this info via search.
I need help on which of the so called better headlight bulbs to replace stock in my 550.
I know Osram makes bulbs, their selection helped does not list Ferrari.
I think a 550 uses H1 and H7.
If someone would point me to what to buy that would be great. I'll also need wattage.
Thanks

Hi there John & welcome. It's always good to have another 550 owner

The 550 uses an H7 lamp for its low beam and H1 for its high beam. The 550 WSM has this reversed in the English & French translations, but gets it right in the Italian & German

The H7 "upgraded" lamps that you may be thinking of are the Osram Super Brights, Night Breakers or other higher wattage lamps which are 65w instead of the stock 55w. According to Daniel Stern, noted lighting consultant, this is accomplished by putting an H9 element on an H7 base. You get 20% more light this way and about 80% less life.

Here are Brian Crall's thoughts about putting higher wattage halogen lamps in our cars: http://www.ferrarilife.com/forums/mo...tml#post169230

You can fairly easily convert the 550's H7 halogen setup to a true HID "Xenon" setup, which is what Ferrari did for the 575M. Here's the rest of the thread on how to do it:

'99 550, Rosso Corsa / Nero, S/N:114654, Assy: 31836, Engine: 52084

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.
