How Crazy am I - 456 Road Trip

I am new 456GT owner - the car is in New York and recently undergone a complete check up. major service, rear shocks, etc. Rather than shipping it I am considering flying to NY and driving it home. Just interested in others feedback on the crazy scale - with 10 being out of my mind where does this rank?

I'd do it, and have done it, but I'd do a nice jaunt about NY first to make sure the kinks are out, but keep your AAA and mechanics phone numbers on speed dial.

I took my 330GTC for a round trip of over 2,000 miles when I had just taken delivery. Considering this was a 43 year old car, I would say that your plan is positively tame.

It has to be said I had some glitches. But at least it was memorable. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Affirmative, go for it. 1800 mile drive back when I bought my first Ferrari, 800 miles for the second, and 800 for third, across Germany, Belgium and the UK. Great fun.

Go to ferraridatabase.com, download an owners manual and workshop manual for your smart phone or laptop, just in case. No problems on any of my three drives, so you should be fine.

Enjoy the trip Kenny! If you're taking the trip soon make sure to have a good weather map along with the manuals on your smart phone. The lake affect in new york can be dicey this time of year.

I have done this type of trip several times when I have purchased Ferraris in different countries in Europe. It is a great way to get to know and bond with the car. If the 456 is in good condition, no reason why not to make the trip. They were designed to be driven from Rome to Paris in a day.

Crazy meter is 9 out of 10, as it is winter now.
(Select best tire for winter drive.)
IF it is not winter, 1 out of 10. Do it!

Winter drive??

I live just south of Buffalo NY. Remember there is very little stickum tire to road below 40 degrees F.AND it will be wet somewhere,salty,snowy,frozen......I'd do the drive in a minute but not in winter. GTS Bruce

Looking forward to seeing the 456 upon your return.

Might want them to toss on a nice radar detector - it will come in handy on McKnight Rd

on the trip!

I was on my way to the airport to drive my 16M home from Cali when I found out the dealer had to charge me California taxes to drive it off the lot ... jealous ... drove home the Bentley from Dallas best road trip ever!

Why buy a car to only put in on a truck.....you didn't buy a painting.....you bought a Ferrari......drive it and make your first drive an intimate experience....you will NEVER forget it.
