In view of the F1 vs. manual discussion going on elsewhere on this site, I find it very interesting to note the considerably higher proportion of manuals sold in the UK than overall shown in your attachment, Terry.

Best wishes, John

John- Traditions die hard in the UK, but it really depends on the type of car. In the rest of the world the 456M was a 50/50 split (668 M/660 Auto), but in the UK only 33 were manual and 139 were automatic. In contrast, on the 360 a much higher percentage were manual shifters than the ROW (830 M/1215 F1). So the UK market really prefers manual shifters on their two seat cars and not so much on their four seat cars.

Very interesting. I think the explanation may be this: if I buy a 2-seater, it is probably going to be a recreational vehicle, so I would specify a manual gearbox because this adds to the driving experience; but a 4-seater is more likely to be a practical / everyday car, in which case an auto makes more sense, especially given the traffic conditions on UK roads.

Best wishes, John
