Hello from NJ

Hi all, we joined here many years ago but have not been active on the forum due to being extremely busy running our independent Ferrari service shop, Exoticars USA. This week we signed up to be sponsors and help support the good work of FerrariLife.com. In 2011 we relocated our main service shop to a brand new building 2 miles from our original site in Frenchtown, NJ. This was a major undertaking. We also finished building a 100% custom Maserati powered aluminum bodied roadster, and also flew out to California to purchase and drive home a 2000 550 Marenello, after the F40 just about our favorite Ferrari. Yes, we drove across country in 3.5 days. Why so fast? We have a busy shop to run! We also found a new home for a 1978 308GTB which we hotrodded (new paint, supercharging, bigger wheels and brakes, electronic ignition, intercooler, many other upgrades). We were fortunate to enjoy and care for that 308 for 10 years.

We are FCA and Driven by Purpose members and socially gregarious. Please stop in for a visit if you are in our area, or if you see us at a show with our black/grey 550 please say hello!
Wil and Sandy de Groot

What pray tell is Maranello Skunkworks? I searched but am clueless, and intrigued! Hopefully it is a team of owner enthusiasts who collaborate to fine tune/repair the 550?

Thanks! Hoping to discipline myself to squeeze in some FerrariLife time to an already jammed daily scheduled, as I'm sure everyone can relate. We have a 430 and 612 in the shop today all finished, cleaned up and ready to go home today so I hope to share some nice photos later. It's on the #listofthingstodotoday
I should have added to our introduction that my husband and I are old as dirt and have been on forums since they were invented. On Ferrarichat as Wildegroot and Sandydeg.

The grand photo shoot is not going to happen since the cars are not cleaned up yet... but a great excuse to show off our shop dog, Zoey!

Bingo - you got it in one, Sandy

It's Dave Burch (Ferraridriver), David (FluentinFerrari), and myself. We all own 550's and have developed a few upgrades/enhancements for them that either: 1) Maranello included with the 575M upgrade or 2) Maranello should have thought of, but didn't.

Some of these are:

1. Top shock mount mod to eliminate the metal to metal pillowball, which we felt had no place on anything but a full on racecar (now sold on to Rob @ DeltaV)

2. COP ignition conversion

3. HID low beam conversion

4. Steam purge line addition to cooling system

5. Elimination of OEM plastic pressure cap and upgrade to standard radiator cap

6. Switchable Steering ECU harnesses (aka Poorman's Manettino)

7. FHP or Custom Curved Steering ECU's

8. High capacity radiator/shroud/fans

9. Hydraulic front end lift

10. Remote trunk release
