Hello from Southern CA.

Hello to all, My name is David Kahn, I live in West Hills, CA (North West Corner of Los Angeles). I have been lurking here for a while. I just purchased a 575M Maranello F-1, which I do not have possession of yet. I should receive it in a couple of weeks. Needless to say I am really excited! I am a gear head and have owned two Ferrari's in the past as well as about 10 Corvettes over the years. My first Ferrari was a 275 GTB4 Long Nose. I had it in 1971 (I wish that I had never sold it). Then after several Corvettes I had a 308 GTSi, that was a fun car. Then several more Corvettes, Z06's and ZR-1's. But the beauty of the 575 really has me mesmerized.
The car that I purchased it a 2002 with the F-1 transmission (I have never driven one). It is Rosso Corsa and has 8,500 miles on it. I will post pictures as soon as I receive the car.
David

David- Welcome to Ferrari Life. Coincidentally, I also have a Rosso Corsa, F1 575M. Look forward to seeing photos and hearing more details on your new redhead. You might read through the 575 technical thread if you have insomnia. Here is some data on the 575s.

Thank you Terry for the info. I printed it, to save. It looks like my car is a very early version.
The s/n is 128097. As I was shopping every time I looked at any car that was any color other than red I kept thinking of the picture of your Red car and it was/is so stunning in Rosso Corsa I decided that I wasn't going to be happy unless that is what I ended up with. Thank you for the info. What does the "M" signify? I see that there are 575's and 575M's?

Hi Jimmy, I am glad to be in the group.

Best to all,
David

David- The M stands for Modificata or modified from the 550 Maranello. When I just use 575, I am also referring to the Superamerica, which has a hot-rodded version of the 575M engine, as does the 612.

Welcome to F-Life and, more importantly, the ranks of Maranello owners - you clearly have good taste!

Best wishes, John

Exhaust question

A quick question for the experts. I have read several posts on here about removing the front exhaust silencers and installing either straight pipes or an X pipe. Since I don't have possession of the vehicle yet and haven't even seen it I don't know what it has although I asked if the exhaust system was stock (in CA we have to pass smog tests every other year), so Cats are necessary. Can someone tell me what is recommended on the removal of the silencers, do I just have a muffler shop put in straight pipes or is there some aftermarket system that is recommended. I would like to enhance the musical sound of that magnificent V-12 and more power is always good too.
Thanks in advance for the info.
David

David- A really good muffler shop can replace the center muffler/resonator/cork with straight stainless pipes or Bradan in New York sells a really good set for ~$1K. There are also commercial X-pipes available. Make sure you get 575M pipes because 550 center pipes will not fit. All the rear mufflers for the 550 and 575M are interchangable, though.

Straight pipes give slightly more hp and torque, but some owners like the sound of an X-Pipe better. At assembly number 51797, Ferrari went to straight pipes on the 575M.

Hi Terry,
What have you done with your car, the straight pipes or the X pipe?
Thanks for the info.

David- Mine came from the factory with straight pipes, and that is what I would recommend. Bradan's pipes are very high quality.
