FNG checking in.

Hey Gents! My name is Thomas, and I currently do NOT own a Ferrari. I enjoy all things mechanical, wheels or no wheels. I've owned more cars than I can count. (Most American, a few Japanese.) I've never owned a European car, ever. I want the first to be a Ferrari. I have a son on the way, and I plan to buy a Ferrari for us to build together when he's a bit older. I should be leaving for Afghanistan relatively soon, so I may have some cash to go forward with a project car when I get back! I look forward to making new friends and learning all I can here. Thanks!

Thomas- Welcome and congratulations on your son soon to be born. Ferraris are actually not that hard to work on if you have the correct tools. Late models sometimes need special diagnostic tools for things like F1 clutch changes, but earlier cars are pretty straight forward, even if they do have a few extra parts compared to most other cars.

Let us know what we can do to help and keep your head down over there. Have not been shot at for over 20 years and do not miss it.

Welcome Thomas.

If I understand your 'between the lines' you either got a reenlistment bonus or bling from taxes on deployment over 6mos. Just guessing, as it sounds like you ran into a nice nest egg. Point being, is I hope you ask as many questions on getting the most affordable Ferrari on your list, especially considering your extra package on the way.

Then again, I like assuming too much

welcome and what models are you mostly looking into or are you open?

Granucci,
I have not yet decided on a specific model. I'm just learning the basics right now. It appears my options for a beginner would fall into the 3*8 category though.

aha. Good choice[s]. Suggest a 328. Might pose that problem in the 3*8 section after some reading, like searches, and/or download the buyer's guide on this site. good start.

note also, the thread recently on Ferrari buyer's guide books.

Thomas, If you are looking for a project car, then a 308 will probably be your best bet. Try to find one with minimal rust and a solid engine and gearbox.
