Hello from Japan!

Hello to all forum members!

My name is Franck, I'm a French man living currently in Tokyo, Japan. When I was born, the 512BB was in its mid-life, which means the walls of my teenager's room were covered with F40 posters.
My passion for Ferrari started pretty late, probably around 10, when I was offered a 1/18 model of the 250 GTO. Sometimes I think my life would have been easier if it had been a Volkswagen Golf model...
I have tried to make the right choices to be able to afford, one day, a Ferrari. Unfortunately, even with descent income, those are truely expensive cars, and given the place I live in, ownership costs are still holding me to even think about buying one. So for now, I'm beeing patient, and I quench my thirst for Ferrari by reading your interesting comments and experiences, enjoying your pictures and dreaming of the day I will join you as an owner.

Despite the fact I have never owned a sportscar, I already had the chance to ride in several Ferrari as a passenger: 512TR, F512M, 328GTB, F40, 275GTB, Dino 246GT (thank you Jimmy!), and as a driver in a 348TB and a F430. I remember every minute of those rides. Owners, if you read me, please be very conscious that you have in your garage the power to make people happy! I hope I remember that when I'll be an owner too, and will be able to use it with as many people as possible.

Please enjoy your Ferrari Life, and thank you so much for sharing a little bit of it!

Furanku- Welcome to Ferrari Life and you have ridden in more Ferraris than I have. Seems like about the only ones I have been in are ones I owned.

If you have not used it before, take a look at ferraridatabase.com, put together by Dutchman Ben Deetman, for all kinds of data on Ferraris you can download for free.

Keep working at it and a starter Ferrari may be in your future. Ferraris like the 328 and Mondial 3.2 are relatively affordable and do not have engine-out maintenance requirements. In general they run about the same price as a low end Mercedes or BMW, while still making all the right Ferrari noises and giving a full dose of Ferrari fun.

Good luck in the future for picking up a Ferrari.

BTW Franck, 10 is not late at all and I find it even quite young. I can't remember exactly at what age my eyes started having eye-contacts with Ferraris but propably it was around the same age. My passion was to build model 1/18 Ferraris, piece by piece and I loved it very much. That's how I discovered already at that age that my pleasure was more to build them up than to have the final result

Thank you all for your warm welcoming words! By the way, is my English level so low you all feel the need to talk to me in French? ;-)

On the contrary, we are all trying to prove how little French we know.

I was practicing my French as I am going there next month again, thought it was a nice way to welcome you too!

I guarantee your English is better than my French!!!

Jimmy- Last time I was in France, we broke an F-111F at mach 1.6 and dumped her into the Mirage base at Reims-Champagne. That was 1983. Nearly got married that night downtown, which would have really chapped off my wife.

So I now speak virtually no French, but fair German.

Taz, is that because you fled to Germany after you trashed the plane!

That is "romantic", Terry. Just like scenes from a movie.

As for Germany,... well, my image is leather, whips and 20cm heeled boots !!!

Peter- Six years of formal German and I lived in Germany for two years where we were the only American family in the village.

We flew the F-111 home, but they had to send a C-130 with a start cart. The French cart only got her up to about 100 rpm and that was not enough. Should have carried start cartridges (like big shotgun shells with no shot), but who knew?

Franck- Sorry for highjacking your thread with old war stories.
