New 355

Hi all. I picked up my first Ferrari this weekend. It's a '98 355 F1 Berlinetta. I'm taking it to a shop next week for a full service and new headers.

I don't have a lot of pictures yet. I've been driving too much...

Welcome, I see you're in Houston also - was this a local car or did you buy it out of state?

And out of curiousity, which shop are you using? If you're not aware, Sphere Motorsports - Mark Darragh and his team take pretty good care of many of the exotics around town.

'99 550, Rosso Corsa / Nero, S/N:114654, Assy: 31836, Engine: 52084

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.

I got it at Lamborghini Houston. Mike did the PPI and will doing all the work on it. He's been invaluable already.

The car seems to be in great shape but the service records are incomplete. We're going to have do a major right away no matter if it really needs it or not. Lamborghini Houston had already done some work but not enough for me to be comfortable driving it.

The interior is a little sticky. It's not bad enough that I need to fix it right away though. Once Mike goes through all the mechanical issues I'll send the interior off to StickyNoMore.

Griff- Welcome again. Very pretty F355 and I see you have the F1 system. Best of both worlds on that system since you can still practice heel and toe because of no electronic throttle.

It has stock Ferrari headers which I've heard crack and cause heat problems in the engine bay.

So far I'm really enjoying the F1 transmission. It's certainly a lot better than the double clutch in my '11 BMW Z4 35i.

I just got rid of my 997.2 Porsche about 8 months ago. I've been surprised by how well this old 355 holds up against that car. Houston streets are just too bumpy for a car with 19" low profile tires. The 18s on the 355 are a welcome relief. Somehow this car has fantastic handling and a smoother ride than my more modern cars.

The sound is nothing short of incredible. Nothing I've ever owned has even come close.

The whole exhaust system is crap, from the header to the muffler. Just junk.

Maybe that sounds a little harsh, but in general I can't find a good thing to say about it.

Nice car, and I am replacing my exhaust as well.
