hi

My name is Randy and I live in Southern Illinois (near St. Louis). I've loved Ferraris since I was a kid. I currently have 5 and hope to get more over the years to come. I like other cars too and currently have a 67 Vette and 2007 Bentley CFS. I'll start posting a lot more over here since a lot of members over at Ferrari Chat have convinced me that this is the place to be.

Randy,

Hello. This has become the place to find out about our local activities.

Interesting TR you saw in Phoenix. Still working to scratch the vintage itch?

Randy- Welcome and looking forward to seeing photos of your cars, including the non-Ferraris. I had a 67 427/390 in the olden days, among the 10 Vettes I have owned. Lots of fun to drive and torque out the kazoo.

Be careful,To much torque out the Kazoo and the seals will fail. Not a pretty sight and a bitch to repair. In addition, Kazoo seals are not exactly cheap.

Welcome Randy. Grab a beer from the fridge and pull up a stool.

I can answer the Corvette questions.

L71 - 427/435 with a set of L89 aluminum heads. Original iron heads were on the passenger floor when delivered.

Jeff- No air conditioning for the L71. Not good in Texas in the summer. All us old Corvette guys can recite all the engines and ratings. L88, weaker than the L71 because it was only rated at 430 hp, right? That one came with headers in the back. You had to install them yourself.

Welcome Randy!

You have one hell of a garage with 5 Ferraris in it! Judging by your avatar you have a 599 GTO and 458? What are the other 3 beauties?

And with the Mako Shark body the ZL-1 had fender flares as loose items.

Remember that back when no-air option available was a common situation on a lot of the top power motors from everyone. It was late that the LT-1 even started to have air as an option.

Randy: Did you determine if the transmission is a M-20 or M-21?

Jeff- The 390 hp versions did not have the rock crusher, but the L71s and L88s did. Chevrolet Engineering even had a couple of L88/ZL1s with beefed up automatics. Not sure if those got out to the public or not.

That will be a really nice acquisition. Communicate with David Christian - find him under the regular discussions on "when they were not commodities". He had one fora number of years in Southern Cal and brought it to lots of the Ferrari Owners Club events. He did the track days with the club too.

I'll find out, my memory is that it's an M21

Randy- Should be easy to tell. Those straight cut gears are noisy as all get-out.

You are thinking of the M-22 most likely. There were 3 4-speeds available (and the 3-speed was standard): M-20, M-21 and M-22. The M-22 was nicknamed "Rock Crusher".
