What are the most desirable 80's Testarossa's

Hi, I'm looking to buy my dream car from back in the day; an 80's Testarossa. Can anyone give me some insight as to what year would be the most desirable. I'm looking at this purchase to be a fun car that i've always wanted, and also as an investment. Gratefull for any advise! Thanks

Welcome to Ferrari Life. It is really more a matter of taste, except the early 90s 512 TRs were much improved. Some swear by the early, single mirror cars with center-lock wheels. Others like the 87s with their more conventional mirrors and center lock wheels, and still others prefer the later models with bolt on wheels. Kind of your choice. I prefer the look of the 87s myself, but would rather have a 512 TR.

Buy one soon. Prices are starting to rise.

The cars were the subject of constant improvement. The newest is the best. There were some issues in the early transmissions that can be expensive to fix. If you have a knock off car and get a flat tire 90% of the time it will mean a tow to a Ferrari specific garage to change it.

I had a flat in our 90 and I was back on the road in 15 minutes.

Great info! Thanks guys. I hear the single mirror (early) TR's are the more desirable ones. Is that true?

It is to the guys who own single mirror models (85/86). Personally, not too fond of that look.

I opted for an 88.5 five lug wheels. It was the personal car of the dealer at Ferrari of Denver. I bought it with 10k miles and now have 35k miles.

Get one that has the Helms fusebox mods. Ask me how I know. :-/

And yes, prices appear to be increasing.

the 512 tr and the M are going to be the best investment. but they can be 2-3x the older ones. Of the older ones, my unprofessional opinion is the single flying mirror will eventually out perform the others.

On topic, I like the single flying mirror for it's uniqueness, but they all look good to me. I love TR's but wife would divorce me blah blah blah.

Off topic, Ed, what is your picture about? - it looks like you are whispering in some dudes ear.

I don't know TRs at all but looking at Algar's inventory they have a 1995 512 M for $349k. Wow. Beautiful car!
