A good black one with a re-conversion kit to a regular F40 was for sale two years ago for 400k.

Of course I did. It was just for an info-featured comparison. It really depends on its racing history and "equipment". The black one was never raced and the interior was just like in a regular F40. Other F40 LMs fully equipped with a great racing history went for a price between €800k-1M. The Totip GT from '87 went over 1M if I remember corretly. But here is a (not thorough, just 1990 ones) list of Auctioned (!) F40s over the past years with sales record, average selling prices and so:

Guys Im asking about a proper F40 LM, not a F40 or an aftermarket tart up....

only 19 F40 LM's were built, can anyone assist me here as my belief is they're worth circa €800k - €1 million given the spec, mileage & provenance as above.

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, today's a gift.....enjoy every minute!

Affirmative. Even more under special circumstances or on auctions.

The one you described seems to be 'the perfect one' by first hearing so further thoughts could be acquired by knowing more about her. Year, chassis number, pics or else or are you planning something? Don't want to be pushy, just curious as always.

If you're seriously looking at a F 40 LM, respectively at the racing version of the F40, you may already be well informed about all the different types of F40 "LM" versions. Over the years, from 1990 to 1994/96 Ferrari/Michelotto made some important upgrades to the type which ended finally with the strongest and probably best of all F40 racing versions, the F 40 GTE. (different engine size, different electronic mapping due to more advanced electronical knowledge in '94/'96 against '90, etc.)

Prices are very dependent as usual on racing history, ownership and condition of car. As I understand, the GTE's are the rarest (7).

Prices range between USD 800 to 1.3 Mio.

A F40 LM/GTE is about the most appeling sensual experience, one may get from a 80's car, short term power increase up to 800 HP with 1'100 kg weight. The blast is incredible. I can tell because I have seen it in Monza on the long straight.

Present: 365 GTB/4, Scud
Past: 250 GTE, 250 PF (2), 275 GTBsn, 330 GTC, 456GT, 550, 360Stradale, 430Scuderia, F40, F50

Thank you for your knowledgable reply Rolf

I have been offered a one owner 8,000km F40LM from the original owner & wanted to know what you guys considered a fair price & also what questions you thought must be asked, just in case I miss something vital as I go through the process, it is number 14 of the 19 built.

Again: History, service history, racing pedigree, crash history, list of all maintenance done during the time span, probably a telephone call down to Michelotto to verify, Ferrari factory to verify, Marcel Massini to verify. Exact, detailed photographs, go and drive the car to see if it is fitting you and most important: What you want the car for ?! etc. etc.

For what it's worth, Ferrari Sales, Service, Restoration & Racing Melbourne : Maranello Motorsport here in Melbourne has a GTE for slightly over 1M USD.

Favourite F40 video!

BTW, have you got the s/n number of the one you've been offered? I'm digging up the chassis numbers and stories of all the 19 LMs so thought I would ask...
