Hello Krome

The header problem was not solved by Ferrari so the exhaust headers will fail in all 355's, at least that is what I read and what I heard after speaking to a tech at fabspeed in PA. They told me the problem presents itself before 30,000 miles. As for the cost Fabsteel gets $3,000 for the parts plus what it costs you to have them installed.

As for the valves Ferrari did fix that problem in 97 I think, for sure it was solved before 99.

If you decide to have a PPI done on the car I have two shops in LA that other members gave me. I spoke with one of them may speak to the other when I am out there this Tuesday the 5th.

We need to make a sticky for this...

Ferrari updated the materials used for the guides sometime during the 1998 production cycle. However, most suspect that they simply added the new inventory to the old inventory, and what ever guide that was grabbed from a box, was the one used on that car.

This is evident in the many examples of 99 355s with guide issues, one of which was a Fiorano (one of the last 100 355s made) which I am personally familar with, and saw the guides with my own 2 eyes.

A 98 or 99 car is certainly less prone to have the older guides, but there is no guarantee. Get a PPI on any year.

Lastly, the valve guide issue really isn't a big deal. Get it addressed during your next major for a few extra $$$$ while you're in there.
