F430: wanting 6sp then bought F1?

Are there any of you who own an F1 but originally wanted a 6 speed? My wife wants the F1 so she can drive it too (i said get your own!). Whats approx lifespan of F1 in the F430 assuming car was well maintained. I posted a thread where's an 05 F430 only has 3500 or so miles is listing at a very reasonable price. afraid of what stories that car has.

IMO F1 is the way to go. My wife is a very seasoned 3pedal driver and enjoys the F1 because it's "wow, that's cool, comfy ride, you really can keep the throttle down when shifting, ooo I need to remember to go to neutral don't I, ouch the automatic button s*cks, ha this is amazing!" - a true Fcar experience. The paddles don't mean automatic and while I suspect someone that doesn't have 3pedal experience might learn quicker you'll want a driving lesson or two, especially when/if to engage some of the driving modes (RACE, etc)

Cheng- Remember there were a lot of generations of F1 before the F430 was introduced. Improvements in smoothness and clutch life are seen due to all the earlier software packages on the F355, 360, CS, 575M, 612, and 575M HGTC/Superamerica. At least ten generations of software were used before the F430, and several during F430 production.

if you want a 3 pedal car get one. Why can't your wife drive one ? If its because she does not know how to drive a clutch car then teach her. My daughter learned how to drive a clutch car in my Dino and my S2000 (she prefers driving the S). I know many people here would but I would have no issues teaching someone how to drive a clutch car in a 360, its not that hard on the car.

To answer your question, I hoped I would get a 3 pedal car because then I could do the clutch myself. That was the only reason, just to save money by doing the clutch myself. In reality I had no preference 3 pedal or F1 except that I could pull the gearbox myself. A F1 one car was the first one that popped up and that is what I got, I really like it and I just budget a little more for the clutch change. Since I daily drive, the F1 is actually pretty nice in stop-n-go traffic.

Mike- No problem changing the clutch, position sensor, and T/O bearing on an F1 car yourself. It is the same transmission and clutch. But you then have to flatbed it to a technician to have the SD2 work done.

I originally was looking for a 6 speed 430 Spider and ended up with a F1 430 Scuderia. Could not be happier with the final outcome.

Cheng- There you go. From wanting a 360 or an F430, go for a little more and pick up a Scuderia. No three pedal available, but nobody complains about the F1 in a Scud because it is down to 60 ms min shift time. They really are a bargain now at around half price or so.

What Taz is talking about is what happened to me. Went looking for an '05-'07 430 (preferably 3 pedal) got sucked in by the Scud and bought it. Small premium, big upgrade!

Guys,

stop it. Someone has already summarized my insane budget increase from a 360 to 430. I am drawing the line at the F430. i know it will not be the last F car so i think i will be very content with it. I just have to find a trouble free one to start off with. This is why the budget keeps expanding. i do not want a trouble car that was neglected or abused. i find myself more biased toards F dealers now. jsut gotta find one with lots of options for me to test drive and potentially buy. perfect place will have 2 F1's and 2 6sp all in red over tan. i will not just fly everywhere theres one potential car to test drive. I want the most for my money in both traveling and final purchase. I was told by a sales person today that the 6 sp F430 clutch was similar to a Honda. really? i know Taz, "get out and drive one Cheng..and stop posting!" sorry..i'll get there...nearest place is 500 hundred miles away but they need to have inventory that i am interested in. i jsut dont feel right driving someones car that i hvae no interest in buying. i need new friends that own these toys! hmm...not a bad idea. i may start ma\king local calls.

Ferrari's aren not weak cars - best ones are driven and have all the kinks worked out.

Dealer cars are mostly consigned and have no difference than an owner selling aside from the premium of where it is parked.

I would prefer talking to an owner vs a dealer and negotiate a far better deal.

On the Scud note - you guys may notice they have gone up in price.
