360 issues resolved???

Guys,

i have the service records that the dealer sent me via email. A couple items scared me:

1. 17K mile and no clutch replacement-when is it recommended? its a manuals so they can't tell the wear or life left supposedly. I am guessing it's going to be close to time for me to do it so i'd like to factor it in to my offer. BTW i offered and they countered but that was b4 i saw the service records.

2. a year ago, owner kept getting intermittent loss of power, check engine light and slow down light going on. It turned out the be a bad pyrometer. replaced and supposedly car drove fine afterwards. Anyone have this issue? i'm concerned it might happen again.

Clutch could last 60,000 miles, depending on driver technique. When a 360 clutch needs replacing, the pedal gets very heavy as the linkage goes over center.

No clue on pyrometer problems.

Hi Cheng,

I don't believe the SD2/3 can detect remaining clutch on a stick shift transmission. However, it can be visually sighted.

As long as the car has not been mistreated, 17K on a clutch should be nothing to worry about.

Right after we got our Spider, we had the same indications sans the slow down light. It turned out to simply need a new fuel cap seal and a fresh tank of gas run through (the car had been sitting for about a year). The symptoms never came back. But a good PPI should tell you why that particular car has those symptoms.

David- How do you visually inspect the wear on a 360 clutch? Possible on the 65 degree V12s, but have not heard of it being possible on the 360.

To be honest Taz, I don't know. I was relayed that info at FOW prior to arranging the PPI for mine. They told me there was a little inspection port on the underside. It may be folklore. I should have qualified it with "maybe" or "I think". Hope someone can confirm?

Same as any other.

Chenglo, if they really don't know how you are talking to the wrong people. They are better suited to be bridge toll takers.

Find a real mechanic.

And just because it only has 17k miles is no reason to not be concerned with the wear. I have replaced worn out clutches at 1500 miles. I have put over 200,000 miles on some of my own clutches without wearing them out and just installed a used clutch on my freshly rebuilt 328. It will still be there when I die. There is no such thing as standard clutch life.
