In fairness, this poll was only ever going to go one way. I'm sure there is probably the polar opposite pole on audilife somewhere....

Not a "one post wonder"... Just haven't pull the trigger on either car yet so nothing new to report. I have been monitoring the postings to see the feedback. I am just waiting to make my decision and I'll report back once I decide. It's likely to be an R8 but nothing is finalized.

The new R8 V10 plus is coming with the new dual clutch S tronic. I would wait for that.

I do not like long stroke engines in high performance cars. Both the Audi R8 V8 and V10 are undersquare with a bore of 84.5 mm and a stroke of 92.8 mm. Long strokes generally mean higher piston speeds and higher side forces on pistons and rings. The oversquare engine in the F430 has a bore of 92 mm and a stroke of 81 mm, more conducive to long engine life at high speeds. As an example the engine in the latest Ferrari F1 car has a bore of 98 mm (max allowed under the rules or it would be bigger) and a stroke of 39.7 mm.

Do not like the Gallardo for the same reason.

This is going to be an interesting car, I agree. Would love to drive one....
BUT........
Most of what I have read so far points to the 'base' R8 V10 being the more liveable option. And to that, I say the 'base' is one helluva drive!

I really don't understand the question. Buying an R8? - sure, why not. On the expense of a Ferrari? - Nononono

If it is to be a daily driver the R8 without a doubt. I am using a 430 as my DD, its a little too gentle for the streets of LA day in and out.

If you have a DD though the F430 without a doubt.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I made my decision and purchased an R8 Spyder V10. I am happy with my choice for now and maybe next time it will be a Ferrari. I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions.

Congrats!

Wise choice, don't sell it. Let it be a wing man to your coming Ferrari?!

Reminds me of the V8 juice commercials, only at some point it will be "I could have had a Ferrari." With palm print on forehead.

so i've owned every variation of both cars so to speak so i speak from my own experience...
2011 Audi V10 Spyder with the gated manual is still my favorite nearly DD. Albeit I've morphed the car into a supercharged 738hp sTasis exotic killer. My 2011 Audi R8 V10 GT was a pretty car but as others have commented the transmission pre DCT sucks. I had an 08 430 coupe also with Manual gated transmission which was also a sweet ride though somewhat under-powered. And truth be told once I owned the 458 I never missed the 430 and its flaws became much more obvious in retrospect.

2013 California
2013 BMW M5
2013 Jeep Wrangler
2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder sTasis #8

Funniest (but most likely true) post of the day

Very good advice! I'm pretty sure behind the bias, he's also getting some quality information about the F-car and he'll get some too in an Audi forum.

As a winter sports car, the R8 is a good choice. But a 964 C4 is an even better winter sports car, as it has narrower tyres. It is also a narrower car which is handy. I've often thought about changing one of my G-Wagens for either an R8 or a 964 C4. More likely, I'll change one G-Wagen for a Ford Raptor.

The Ford Raptor is a beast! Just such an epic ''truck'' as the Americans here would say...
