Non Ferrari Warranty

Hello:
I have obtained a PPI on a 2005 F430, six speed ( 12k miles) and it passed. No deferred maintenance, no major issues. We have agreed on a price and details. I am going to fly to drive the car Weds- from a dealer I have bought several cars from in the past.....

Question- I asked and received a quote for an aftermarket warranty for 2 years/30K miles for 7K. I can go longer as well but the initial quote is 7k.

Thoughts on this deal? I will post the terms if any lawyers want to read. 0 deductible, go where you want, and all major items are covered in essence.

Thoughts ?

Would anyone drive this car home 800 miles? I have been warned against it but...

Scott

Congratulations!

Drive it home and forget the warranty - 100% not necessary IMO.

A 430 6 speed is a bullet proof Ferrari - might want to install a clear bra on the hood / bumper and add a radar detector which should run around 3-4k - after that it's you and the open road.

Spend the other 3k on gas.

Scott- I drove my first Ferrari home in 1975, a Dino 246 GT, from Poughkeepsie, NY to Clovis, NM, where I was flying F-111Ds. Your F430 is a whole lot more reliable and even the Dino gave no problems at all on the 1900 mile trip home. People will undoubtedly know what your car is, too. They had no clue during my trip.

Scott- Congratulations. Looking forward to hearing your impressions and seeing some photos. Ferraris have very light flywheels and the engines tend to decelerate as quickly as they accelerate. You will get used to it and just not let the revs fall as much during an upshift.

Small world.

I have a brother n law in Philly - he and his wife are in the medical field.

FYI - FNA sent a letter last fall offering free shipping to the closest dealers - Chicago Atlanta and Denver for one year. Maybe your dealer could have you added to the list.

Warren- There was a Ferrari service facility in St Louis, but FNA cancelled their contract and there are now legal proceedings. To make it up to St Louis owners, free transportation to Chicago area dealers was offered by FNA to select owners.

Taz:

I got the letter from FNA and the dealer- as Doug is alluding to- if one had serviced their vehicle at the dealer when it was authorized- then FNA would, at their cost, transport the car to the now closest authorized service centers. If your name was not on the list, then it's on you. We got the other letter also, from the dealer/service center- which outlined their case- that FNA allegedly promised a new car franchise but did not follow through. That they were forced to buy equipment for cars they could not sell. FNA alleges that the service center was not busy enough etc.

Don't know what the story really is, but the service center still services Ferrari and they have the same technicians, equipment etc. Funny, the signs still say authorized service outside.....

One can google the whole thing.

Not taking sides but there are a lot of Ferraris in STL.
