PPI question.

New to the forum and hopefully new to Ferrari's as well.

An F430 is in my budget and have just started the research/looking process. If an F430 is being sold by a Ferrari dealer, how do I go about getting a PPI done? Do I trust the dealer or is it like any other used car, buyer beware?

This is one of the cars I was interested in,
2006 Ferrari 430 Base - Ferrari dealer in Washington DC VA

TIA,
Mike

Mike- A Ferrari dealer selling a used car is just a used car dealer. Many of the cars they offer are on consignment and the dealers are therefore reluctant to spend any money on them. Ferrari certified cars are a bit better, but they are still used cars. Unless the car comes with a warranty that is bumper to bumper, try and find a good independent to do a thorough PPI.

Welcome Mike - a PPI is a must have as far as I'm concerned....let me enlighten you further.....

A few months back I bought a F430 Spider F1 from Charles Hurst in Belfast, they described their 4k mile, 4 year old, car as 'mint' with just 1 stone chip, which would easily touch in, and said I would be extremely happy with the car.

They knew I was a good Ferrari & Maserati client, Maserati forms part of their Dealership & as they said the car was 'mint' and given it's very low mileage and the fact it was being sold as an Approved Used Ferrari with a full 2 year warranty I bought it sight unseen, without a PPI & they shipped it to me a few weeks later.

On its arrival the car had not been valeted, too little time before shipping apparently, as their bodyshop had held things up with the time they took respraying the front bumper, but, the car was not as described as a few more 'flaws' were very apparent so I had an Independent Ferrari Specialist complete a PPI retrospectively, they supplied me with 4 pages of faults; supported by 234 photos...and the results were shocking......3 of the tires were perished between the treads, road salt had severely corroded all of the aluminium to the suspension, gearbox & engine areas, there was also heavy rust to the wheel hubs and various other 'hidden' parts and to cap it off, It had suffered a rear end shunt previously and had kinking to the rear quarter panels, various panels had been resprayed too & a new rear bumper had been fitted. To the untrained human eye the paintwork looked very good, but it did not stand closer inspection....as they say looks can be deceiving. Needless to say I rejected their car, I also reported this car & PPi findings to Ferrari North Europe for their investigations as it should never have been up for sale as an Approved Used Ferrari here in the UK, given it's woefully shocking condition!

Good luck with your purchase, do yourself a favour and insist on a PPI

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, today's a gift.....enjoy every minute!

Both Competizione and I perform PPI's on cars selling out of FoW regularly. In my experience, there is no reason to trust any one selling a car with repair and maintenance costs that these cars can accrue.

Regardless of how confident you are, the potential expenses of repairs simply makes the few hundred we charge seem like petty change.

I've seen some very good cars leave that dealership, I've also seen cars that went to owner's that were very happy that they had bargaining power due to a thorough PPI. View the inspection not as an expense but a purchasing and financial tool.

Josh performed the PPI on my Spider. Aside from a minor issue a year and a half later, one you can't possibly PPI, it has been perfect.

I have peace of mind and a mint, trouble-free car. Priceless.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

Josh also did the PPI on my 550, which exposed a number of items that proved to the seller (FoW) their asking price was just out of line, and afterward it was reduced.significantly.

'99 550, Rosso Corsa / Nero, S/N:114654, Assy: 31836, Engine: 52084

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.

I know the car was going to buy it, they have had it for awhile now and are probably itching to sell it. It has a great clutch read, if I remember about 85% left. Good guys at FOW. I have dealt with the sales dept and service dept for many years. Only reason I didn't buy it was the interior color and a little pricey compared to market value. Best of luck
