I am looking to purchase 550

This is my first Ferrari. This car is a silver exterior and black interior. 1999 ZFFZR49A0X0116407
about 28,000 miles. Car is located in Bay area. I am located in Los Angeles.

Does anyone know anything about the history of this car? It looks like it is well care for but I have seen only pictures.

I am looking for a PPI. Recommendations?

Thanks,
Allin

Hello Allin & welcome. Brian Crall's shop would be one suggestion for a PPI in the northern California area. Good luck with your purchase!

'99 550, Rosso Corsa / Nero, S/N:114654, Assy: 31836, Engine: 52084

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.

Allin- Welcome and hope the Maranello you are researching turns out to be a good one for you. You can download owners manuals and workshop manuals from ferraridatabase.com and be an expert on the car before you buy.

Hello Allin & welcome

You came to the right place to get the info you need to buy your first Ferrari.

I started my search for a 550 about 8 mos. ago and put one in my garage with the help of the folks here a couple of months ago.

As has already been stated, the 550 is a great first Ferrari and a lot of car for the money.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi terry ... My name is Stuart and am looking at an early 575 to purchase... Low mileage car (6000) miles that has minimal options( no modulars of fhp, rear leather shelf ) it needs its major service also plus a set of new tires as they are now 8 years old... What is lithe figure on a car like this?obviously I'd like to get it at a steal, thanks , stuart

Interesting. I never want to buy Ferraris at a steal. I want to buy a quality car, and I have never found one that was a steal. I have found them at a good deal, but the best maintained cars always have owners that are not want for money and can hold on for a while if the market is bad.

Obviously we all have different philosophies. But just beware of cheap cars, there is almost always a reason they're cheap. Have them well inspected, and drive as many as you can find.

Good luck!

Great point Onno, you're going to pay one way ro the other...or just have a bad ownership experience. If this 575 needs a major and tires, it probably needs a few other things. I would recommend taking the market price for a solid car and knocking $10k off it. Then expect to spend nearly $10k getting this car up to par.

I don't believe Brian offers PPI services, he would know who to avoid though.

Cheap Ferrari's are usually really expensive.

I had a cheap 360 go through here recently. First visit alone was $14,000 and the car is still rough.

Stuart- Welcome to Ferrari Life. Low end 575Ms are in the $70s now, and the one you are describing needs about $1200-1500 worth of tires and a belt service and filters and fluids for $5K+, plus unknowns, so Josh's $10K is not a bad estimate. It does have low mileage, so brakes are probably ok as long as the fluid was changed regularly.

Sounds like a $70-80K car.

@Stuart

There is a great 575M in fully original condition for sale over here in Holland, saw it this afternoon at the company who got it!

I'm guessing he would be here posting if he bought a car. Camaraderie is important to a new Ferrari owner!
