Looking for a restorative specialist in NJ/NY/CT area- F40

Hello everyone,

My name is Dan Kastner and I am located in Northern New Jersey- I am not a Ferrari owner but a Professional detailer with an extensive list of clientele whom I have performed work for on their various exotics.

I AM NOT, NOT advertising here but I am in need of someones help/ maybe someone here can point me in the right direction!!

I have a client whom has an F40 and is looking to have small restorative things done to it (mostly cosmetic) I am treating this job as a "project" if you will and in conjunction with my work (40-60 hours of paint correction) I would like to find myself a specialist who has the tech knowledge and skills necessary to work along side me on this "project" and bring my clients F40 up to concourse condition.

I thank you for your time and please feel free to either e-mail me or give me a call at any time.

Best,
- Dan Kastner

we did have a couple detailers and the like here who either sold products or detailed and could help but I suspect they have nothing on your abilities.

Concours detailing might be addressed by BOXER or others who have the F40 or similar.

BRIAN, although his desired specialities were the 3x8 series is a judge and knows quite well the details needed.

that's my knowledge, sure others will chime in.

What things do you want done? mechanical, paint and body, electrical? If it is mechanical, our sponsor Competizione would be a good start. I believe Richard is factory trained on the F40. In fact, when i first met him, he was doing an engine job on fow's owner's F40.

Thank you for replying!

The client is looking to have the following areas either reconditioned or replaced (after our inspection):

Cosmetically:
- repainting various blemishes and areas under the front bonnet (matte black color)
- cleaning (mostly my end via steam) the shock absorbers etc.
- top of shock towers need to be re sprayed (orange color)
- rear grille re-paint- matte black
- aluminum engine pieces (shields) either repainted or replaced
- several other tiny blemishes
- I will be performing a full paint correction over a span of close to 6 or 7 days so basically anything cosmetic is under either bonnet

Mechanically:
- owner wishes to have various hoses replaced and checked- all seals inspected or replaced
- exhaust leak to be fixed
- insulation in rear bonnet area to be replaced

I will try and think of more as I recall more.

I really appreciate all the help gents!

I would recommend Classic Coach in Elizabeth, NJ. Authorized by Ferrari and provide excellent service and work befitting the Brand. Contact Onofrio, the owner. They have been in business restoring and services Ferraris for 40 years.

I have no idea where you get that Rik. I am a IAC/PFA senior judge and one of my areas of greatest expertise is the Super Car class. That does not take into account my factory training or work history with them. The last F40 I did won every award it was eligible for at the FCA National in New Jersey a few years ago. I do have more than a passing familiarty with them. I am not lobbying for work, I have more than I can do now, just trying to correct the record.

I started the 308/328 research project specifically because there was so little known about them by me or anyone else for that matter and even less written. Kieth Blumels book is so full of innacuracies it is of little more value than a casual coffee table book.

As far as the OP is concerned I suppose someone on the east coast knows something about those cars though the vast majority of the cars are west of the Rockies and most of the people I know who have any significant knowledge of them are out here too.

Give our sponsor here a call. His name is Richard Capoccia. He is an owner of Competizione and sports cars. He is factory trained on the f40 and has done motor jobs on them. If his shop in MD is too far away, i'm sure he can help you anyway. I have already talked to him about it and he awaits your call. There used to be a go to shop on the east coast called carrosserie(sp?). they seem to have disappeared from all i can tell. i know it sold several years ago and several of the old guys left. Give richard a call, he can set you straight.

Just saw this thread. A couple of other shops that do fine restorations. Both are in Bridgeport CT and do amazing work.

Redline restorations

Blackhorse garage.

If you are looking for mechanical know how try Jim McGee at Pocono Sportscar just over the border of NY in Shohola PA. He supports 2 F40's on the race circuit.

Thank you everyone very much for the responses - I had found one specialist and after a meeting with the owner and specialist he has found the setting to be unsuitable for the work. The owner does not own any tools/ devices AND the client (owner) does not want the F40 to leave the house.....there in lies the problem.
