SEFAC Annual Concours at MonteCasino

The annual Southern Equitorial Ferrari Club Concours will be held at MonteCasino in Sandton South Africa.

Montecasino Ferrari Show Day 2012

I will be driving the BBi and my friend Italo the Daytona. He has entered both cars for judging.

I look forward to posting some photos from the event.

A short update with photos to follow.
Overall Winner an absolutely magnificent F40 having come out of a full restoration almost the night before.
No expense was spared in restoring the car.

The Daytona took a win for its class and the BBi did not feature unfortunately.

The entry was exceptionally strong this year but unfortunately lacked in variety as none of the F50s or 288GTOs were entered and there were only 2 Daytonas 2 Testarossas and the BBi.

All in all there were 70 plus cars mostly late models 355/360/430/458 as well as 2 599GTOs.

Hi Peter

I went very early to have a look - Si saw you driving on the other side of the highway on my way back around Grayston. My 308 is being resprayed so I took the Diablo for an early morning burn.

The show was nicley put together and I haven't been to one of these for quite some time now.
Some nice Testarossas, great to see the ex-Kebble, ex-Jackson F40 has been cleaned up (although I don't really like the black wheels).

Also, I looked at the 348 and 355 parked next to the 360 - can't believe just how compact they are.

It was my first time seeing the FF in the metal - the pne parked there was a great colour and it looks interesting (even cool) - but not for me!!!

Hope you had a great day

Thanks for the reports, Gentlemen. It was a highlight for me to attend the annual SEFAC concours. I even picked up a cup in 1988 for my Dad's 365gt 2+2 that I spent a number a weekends detailing. And then in 1997 I won the Dino class with my 246gt. I took the Friday off work before the Sunday judging to detail her. No result with my 512BB in 1998. My excuse is that it poured with rain that day and I was paying more attention to my lovely female companion. She had no idea I drove a Ferrari and was surpised when I collected her in the blue BB and we had lunch in crowded noisy room with rows of Ferraris lined up with military precision outside. Happy memories! Photos please Gentlemen!

Hey guys,

Yeah it was a great turn out yesterday of cars and fans, probably one of the busiest Show Days over the past couple that have taken place. Nice variety of models from over the years and was great to see the 166 there yesterday.

That F40 has been restored really well. The current owner Keith did a great job. I'm sure the previous owner Sam would want it back after seeing it now, LOL! Sounded great when he was leaving.

Pablo Clark Racing also did a good job fixing up that 360 Challenge. I drove that car when it was still in the hands of Forza Racing and was the Pirelli car.

Congrats on the Daytona win! Which Daytona was it yesterday, the one along the side wall of the Piazza or the one next to the 166?

Sorry about the BBi not winning.

Next to the 166
The BB was parked next to the other Daytona and a convertible 355.

Gentlemen I am most distressed to report that the photos taken during the show day have been deleted.....unless one of you know how to retrieve them from a SanDisk Ultra II CF card.

Any help would really be appreciated

David do you remember a gentleman who owned a white Dino as well as a racing Alfa Romeo(really one of the rare ones back then it was valued highly) and a 400?
He was a Doctor as I recall one of my clients when I was at FNB........a real fine gent lived Linden side if I recall the name Hugh Gearing/Gerring comes to mind.

Indeed it was Dr Hugh Gearing, a true gentleman (RIP). I bought my 512BB from him. Dr Gearing owned greats such as ex-Nuvolauri Alfa Monza, 250 GT swb, Maserati 5000GT, 166MM, 250 GT Boano, Lusso, Alfa 1750, 365 GTC/4 etc. Dr Gearing bought the 365 gt 2+2 from my father in about 1996. It was a pleasure and an honour to drive my 512BB out his Linden home thatApril in 1998 after 16 years in Dr Gearing's expert care.

If I recall that 365 was a deep red/maroon colour I do not clearly recall. His son brought it to Kyalami soon after they acquired it. Was he not one of the founding members of SEFAC? I recall spending a few hours with him going through his old photographs and war stories.

As to the 400 I recall that he paid R25 000 for it but was in need of some very serious attention. I wonder what came of that car.

Yes an absolute gentleman he was.

Indeed Dr Gearing was a founding member of SEFAC in 1967, one of the oldest Ferrari clubs in the world and given permission by Ferrari to use the SEFAC name and badge.

The 365 was a deep red with tan interior, rhd 1968 model. After a year of nagging by me, my Dad bought it in 1985 for the princely sum of R17,500 (the same price as a new Golf Gti then!) At the time Dr Gearing advised my Dad not to go for it due to noisy tappets. Turned out fine and the 365 never gave a moments's trouble. Dr Gearing acquired her from Dad over 10 years later. Patrick, Dr Gearing's son, and I had a fun day at Kyalami in 1999 when Patrick took me around the track in the 365 and I took Patrick around in the 512. Around that time Dr Gearing had just completed a rebuild of a Lamborghini Espada and was restoring his light blue 400i auto. I think Patrick inherited the Alfa 1750 (rebodied in 1935 by Van Den Plas if I recall) but I do not know what happened to the 365 and 400. That 365 was a lovely Ferrari, never gave any trouble, never ran hot. And fun even/especially on the track!

A pity that there was no FerrariLife then! It took until 2007 for us to meet up, thanks to FerrariLife. And the wonderful adventures continue...

I am being pedantic I know
SEFAC is the oldest Ferrari Club in the world and as you correctly stated the late Enzo Ferrari agreed and a letter attesting his agreement is now held at Houghton at the Clubs official "residence".

Man we have such few firsts in SA we clamour for any first no matter how trivial its impact may be

Hi Peter, I was there on Sunday, I saw your BBi ! looks fantastic, pity I forgot to ask you before hand, could have met you there somewhere.

That black 360 Spider was something else and the yellow Dino.

that F40 was awesome, the black wheels goes and looks deadly makes the car look more modern but far from the original.

I've got about 100+ photo's I can email you.

cheers
Johnny

It is amazing what candid moments are captured on camera when one does not know that one is being photographed.

Here I am standing just outside the railing next to the Daytona looking at the facial expressions of the gentleman holding the camera and admiring the 166. I was absolutely riveted by him,yet little did I know that Johnny was photographing the scene quite innocently.

Here is a photo of the BB after the judging was concluded and the cars were closed up and locked for lunch which I might add was a sorry affair for what is purported to be a 5 star hotel.

The BB is framed by the Daytona belonging to one of the older members of the car and is a left hand drive car. You can also see the nose of a convertible 355 whose owner during the "wall of Ferrari sound" merrily revved the car at 8 000rpm repeatedly.
I was shocked.
