599 Gto

Whilst waiting in my dentists surgery this morning I picked up the Dec 07 copy of Evo Magazine and came across a 599 GTO, only 5 are being made at a cost of 1 Million Euro's plus the cost of the donor 599 GTB. High performance 630 GTO also available incase the 599 isn't quick enough.

I think it is absolutely gorgeous. I'm not normally a big fan of bringing back long dead cars, but they have done it justice, much better than Ford's attempt at bringing back the GT40.

Your opinions?

Archie

Michiel van der Brink is a member of the other forum I frequent, <enzo'slastname>chat.com, and regularly comments on his projects there. You should check out the thread in the Dutch section where one of my mates visited his workshop, which he shares with famed Ferrari restorer Alwin Hietbrink. The famous breadvan, 250 GTO's, SWBs etc all are Alwin's daily patients... Just amazing.

As for his 599 GTO project, I'm just amazed such things can be pulled off in this day and age, and I applaud him for it. That the car is, as you say, gorgeous doesn't hurt one bit either!

He also suggested a convertible 599, see attached pic. Looks great to me, very Daytona Spider in terms of vibe but modern. Not sure of the state of this project, maybe it was just a design study.

I like the 599 California Spider, but not as much as the 599 GTO. It is just stunning. The original GTO is a legend, and only a very brave person would attempt to re-create it, but he has pulled it off. The styling is very contemporary but you still know instantly what it is. I love the rear spoiler/lip - just like the original GTO's, and also reminescent of the Shelby Cobra Daytona, and of course, Lightning McQueen.
There is definitely a new contender for the top place on my list of top 5 Ferrari's. The F40 is now No2 (sorry Boxer )

the 599 GTO looks good but not great IMHO, but that 599 Convertible should be on production RIGHT NOW, looks better than the 599 Coupe and the 550 Barchetta!

Saw that article myself Archie and I'm looking forward to seeing one in the flesh. Maybe next time I see Boxer

I think it looks great in the pictures. I love the 250GTO and think its a great compliment to the original, the new 599s should be produced in the same colour schemes as the 250s.

I think the 599 Convertible looks stunning. I would love to see Ferrari officially launch one (or a 599 Barchetta)

HAve not heard anything about this. I would think that a Superamerica type roof would be more likely.

I know that a specialist (Straman) did three 456GTs as full conversions - I came across a red one from an American dealers library - but sorry, I cannot find the link.

this red 456 GT Convertible has been discussed somewhere here in Ferrari Life, it was sold not too long ago, I believe
