Soy Estupido!

Took my F430 out for a drive a week ago. Once the car is warmed up I like to down shift and hear the sweet sound of the engine. I down shifted from 6th to 5th and after about 10 seconds it shifted back to 6th! Bad thoughts raced through my mind "The F1 transmission is going!, the F1 actuator problem has finally reared it's ugly head!, oh no!". After calming down I though "hmm, I usually have it in sports mode, so I switched from race back to sport; still the same issue. Then I tried downshifting going down hill same results. Finally I got off the freeway and decided time to abort the mission. Went under the freeway and started getting back on and as I accelerated, the car had been possessed by daemons and was changing it's gears without my explicit instructions! At this point a sign of relief and "damn that was stupid" went through my head.
Here is what happened. Every time I take the car out I hit all buttons to make sure they keep working. Well I guess I must have hit auto and left it on. Pressed auto and problem solved.

In 8+ years of ownership of my F1 575M, I have never pressed the Auto button and likely never will.

As with my 16M, I wish I can say the same, Terry.

Unfortunately, when I fire up 16M, the Auto mode seems to be the default, thus I need to press the auto button every single time to switch to F1 shift mode. Sigh. Wish they did not do this.

Jimmy- You do not have to push the Auto button, all you have to do is hit one of the paddles and she will return to manual mode. Those buttons tend to wear out, so using the paddles is a better idea. The Auto Easy Exit mode at start applied to several of the later Ferraris, including the 599.

Terry, much obliged. Every time I push that auto button, it's like "why did Ferrari do this ?" and the feel of less than desirable quality was not a good feeling.

If it were not for your enlightenment, I would probably perish without knowing that.

I already feel like a bit smarter from today on.
