FERRARI 308 Dino Gt4 a real ferrari ?

Ferrari snobbery says no.
I think I am qualified to make a judgement.
Over the years I have owned amongst other cars a number of sports cars including an E Type, 930 porsche turbo, a 328 GTS and a Testarossa.
I have recently purchased a 1978 Dino GT4.
In the Gt4 drivers seat absolute sports car simplicity with guages and toggle switches.
Fire up the engine and you are rewarded with a cacophony of 4 webers into action and an aggressive factory exhaust.
This car is simply a real Ferrari sports car.

By asking the question you are perpetuating that misqualification. Sounds a bit too defensive to me. With the true enthousiasts, I have never had this discussion. The 246, as well, participates in every classic Ferrari event that our club organises, and nobody ever asks that dumb question. And people seem to forget that the original Dino, Alfredino, was a Ferrari and had his dad's DNA....

The 308GT4 is a Ferrari, end of discussion. Especially if it is from 1978, as they were badged as Ferraris from 1977. So you should not call your car a Dino in the first place. Because it is not.

Enjoy the car. They are great fun to drive.

Thank you JazzyO for your response. When researching the 308 Dino gt4 [ which is badged on the boot of the car] most articles at some point refer to the the perception that this car is not generally accepted as a real ferrari. Such factors as 4 seats, designed by Bertone not pininfarina
etc. The Mondial seems to suffer from a similar attitude.
I 'penned' the post to generate some dialogue with other GT4 owners and Ferrari owners in general. As you have suggested I may be a little defensive but I wanted to 'fly the kite' and enjoy the contributions.

The 308GT4 was the first Ferrari I ever saw in the flesh back when I was in High School.
I've never considered them anything other than a Ferrari.
And have wanted one ever since.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

Late 308 GT4s were badged as Ferraris, so not much doubt.

So now you are defending your defensive position. Stop it already!

Any Ferrari is a real Ferrari unless it is not a Ferrari.

Some Ferraris are better / more desirable than others, but that is entirely subjective / depends on the needs of the owner: e.g. to a man with a wife and two small children, a 308GT4 is probably more desirable than an F40.

Best wishes, John

FERRARI 308 gt4 EXPERIENCES:

Hi Bluebottle,
When I first posted my question I was playing the devil's advocate.
I was hoping to generate dialogue from other ferrari owners with the hope of establishing their experiences on this issue.
I am now enjoying great comments and thank for yours.
