Resale

Good morning,

Not that I am ever going to try to sell my California, but the conversation came up when I was at the Dealership this weekend regarding resale values of Ferraris, especially with the California T. I am interested to know if anyone here has had experience selling a gently-used Ferrari, especially recent V8s and how that experience has been.

I have a 2010 approaching 11,000 miles with no blemishes except for the rear diffuser underneath the car which I am about to replace.

Thoughts?

Most cars still on the downside slope of their depreciation curve enter a buyers market.
And as a group they are heavily skewed toward looky-loos and insulting low-ballers.
But as long as you realize that and are ready to deal with them you should have no serious problems.

Of course, you'll probably be disappointed when you find out the average selling price of your car.
But as many here have stated, ours is a pay-to-play sport.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

Thanks for the insight. I had the twisted dream that a Ferrari, Lambo, etc. would be like a diamond - you can trade up without taking too much of a negative equity hit.

Quite the opposite. You'll likely take a significant markdown for depreciation in the first few years.

The computer/robot built Ferraris have a large depreciation. There are few exceptions but in general expect to sell you car for less than what you paid for. Also be patient as we aren't talking about a $20,000 car. Few people can afford these cars and it takes time to sell. Good luck if you venture down that path.

Thanks for all the insight and responses. I plan to be a long time Ferrari owner, and will probably try to upgrade in a few years. I tend to over research and over think everything, after the check is written.

cheers.

Look up Sheehan's article on modern Ferraris being "used cars".
While the article may sound harsh, I think his underlying premise is correct.
It's well worth a read.

A little cynical

The article makes many valid points but some of the conclusions drawn I would disagree with.

Very thought-provoking and yes, I do disagree with some of it as well.
