Engine and Tranny swap

Hello ferrari experts,
I just purchase a 1969 dino ferrari 246 from a friend of mine that moved out of the country. The car is with out engine and tranny. I want to put in a different engine and tranny from a vehicle that has more parts availble and the parts are less expensive. One person mentioned that he saw a dino with a type 1 vw engine. Is this possible? Any thing you know is appreciated.
thank you

I thinkmost answers are found here, a topic you started yourself: http://www.ferrariforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3449 In general people are saying: don't do this... wait a few years, save money and buy the real thing.

You will be reducing the value of your car by about 50% ($45,000) by putting a VW engine in. You should try to locate an original Dino engine if you can. They are not unreliable. Just run it regularly to ensure the seals don't dry out.

I have no idea about the VW engine. Sorry.
