I just went through the same process buying my 430. Of course I did not have an Aston Martin to start with, and I would not take a two hour ambulance ride, much less a bus ride.
My family has been driving BMWs for years, and besides the 75o my wife drives, we have a Z4 with lots of mileage that we both used as daily drivers for awhile. Currently my everyday is a FJ Cruiser (great price retaining on that model). But what I found on doing the research was that buying a new top of the line BMW, Merc, or Audi versus a used Fcar, that depreciation wise the Fcar was cheaper. Anyone of those cars (top of the line) will cost you $100,000 or more, and in 5 years - its worth around $30,000 - the F430 cost around $140,000 (spider) and I believe in 5 years it will be around $80,000 to $100,000.
I believe maintenance is close to the same if you go the dealer route.
But more important, is the fun / passion. Not only is it fun to drive - both on the open road, but also taking the wife out to dinner; but its also fun in the sense of being a Ferrari owner. Just realizing one of life's goal is a great thing, and we all have a limited time to achieve life's goals.
But I don't think we need to explain that to anybody here - we all went and did it. But for those who haven't, go do it.
I never wanted to go into a gunfight with the cheapest gun!
