Jim- Gorgeous. Did not realize the late prototypes came with electric fans for the radiator. Dual ignition, too.

They did have dual ignition but the fans are something we add so that we can roam the roads and do tours like the Historic Targa Florio. We always do it in a way that can be put back should one want to overheat.

Jim- That makes perfect sense. She is coming along beautufully. Is there much difference in exhaust note between the injected and Weber prototypes?

The sound is similar but 412P 0854 (Carbs) and P 3/4 0846 (FI) are a bit different to drive. 0854 is easier and has more low end torque. 0846 has more HP but you really have to rev it to get going and hill starts are interesting. There is also the difference of Coupe vs. Spyder. Spyders are a lot easier to drive as you see much more around you and you can stay cool. Driving our P 3/4 0846 on The Historic Targa Florio is not something I'll ever forget.

Jim- Guess that explains why P4/5 C is air conditioned. I had a Dino 246 in eastern NM with no air, and it got pretty hot inside with all that sun shining in, even with the windows down. Much more glass (plexi) on the P3/4.

Driver's comfort enables a car to be driven much faster in races.

Are the side windows removable? IIRC they were removed mid race in the BOAC 500 but was this a mid race 'fix on the the fly'?

They are not removable without breaking them out as they did during the 67 BOAC race. There are sliders but the issue with all of these coupes was that there was no in line fan in the cockpit ventilation inlet and CO tended to build up dangerously especially during relatively slow driving in race traffic. We mount hi capacity in line fans to the cockpit inlets of all of our cars to pressurise the cockpit and force flow through ventilation. We also very carefully monitor cockpit CO to make sure they're safe. This is a REAL issue when driving Race Cars on the Road and on The Track.

Jim, absolutely incredible. Thanks for sharing.

Will you be at the FCA Annual Meet track event at Summit Point, WVA next weekend with your car(s).

I'd love to come out, meet you, and see these incredible machines!

Hi

No. With our new road/race car we're really busy. We will be at Pebble Beach with our Dino Competizione Post in War Preservation. We will of course drive her on the Pebble Tour on Thursday. We'll also have our Studz at Quail. On Labor Day Sunday we'll drive 0846 up to Lime Rock for The Road and Track Concours and in October we'll bring 0846 to Americana Manhasset. We next do The Geneva Auto Show in March 2015 to unveil our new car and then take her racing at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. We may do Amelia Island next year with P 4/5 Competizione and The Goodwood FOS with our new car and possibly Villa d'Este with SCG 003 (our new car) as well

Best

What a machine and it's in the right hands.

Good luck with the new racer - is this the Alfa 4C project?

didn't even know you had this!. You seem to be collecting the real versions of my 1/18 scale collection! Have #224 on my desk right now. Thanks again for giving me and kkrace the short history of the P-cars a couple of years ago at Amelia. Still remember most of it.

Yes and no. As we've become a full Constructor after winning The FIA Alternatives
Energy Championship with P 4/5 C we deceided not to base our new car on any existing chassis or platform and have designed and engineered a unique Full CF chassis for SCG 003.

Great to see an update on this project, for many the ultimate classic Ferrari is a 250 GTO, for me its a 412P or any of the P cars for that matter. I really don't think there have been many prototype racing cars that have the sheer beauty a 412P conveys on paper and I am sure this is only magnified when one sees one in the metal.
