Insane ? Probably.

It seems I have finally found a "warhorse". I appologize for the long story to a simple thing, buying a car....but I guess/trust we all like mainly "stories".

It looked for a long time that I will end up either with a 550 or 575, especially after Terry and Fabio have been full of appraisals about this wonderful type. Also, the 550 was my first Ferrari ever and I loved it. Those wonderful memories came back when I had a chance to drive Vitalone's gorgeous blue 550 while running the last italian fled in may '13. When our daer F-Lifer Barry then mentioned to look for a front engined 12 cylinder to his stable and could imagine leave it in Switzerland to have a car to run around with when here in my country, the idea of co-owning a great 550/575 started to develop. After lots of looking and analysing markets, the 550 presented as attractive price wise, the 575 (with Terry's unbeatable technical analysis and help) more attractive in use with possibly less issues longer term.
Unfortunately, Barry's use of any swiss based car would be limited to the territory of Switzerland only (as EU resident with swiss plated car, as discussed in length on another thread) and this made the idea for Barry understandably much less attractive.

After this, I started to imagine again when and how I would use the "warhorse" and found that a 550/575 somehow (maybe I'm wrong) would too much "mirror" D...in a much more modern form of course. Maybe a look at the 575 GTC version will help....but then found that the GTC version, although unquestionable absolutely wonderful, with lots of great, redveloped parts and wonderful ingredients is still not very attractive price wise in our country as prices run about 60% higher than latest 575 FHP, 3 part wheels, Daytona seat examples. So back to the initial 575.....with Barry...yes right away. For myself hmmmm.....

In all that time I was co-checking the scud market as prices started to fall insanely with the oncoming of the "Speciale". Yes, the Speciale, I spent a hard 2 weeks to get away from the idea of ordering one until rational kicked in enough again (depreciation). Oh yes, I know....but it's me....sorry.

So, besides the 550/575 idea....a rebuy of a scud was always looming in the background.....scud prices fell from Euro 140 spring last year.....to around Euro 95-100, the lowest (with highest mileage). I looked at about 10 different Scud in the timespan of 6 months...some very nice ones...some less, with some more and some less driven....but always with one important point to Focus on: Rosso Corsa with black alcantara, red stitching, 4 point harness, the way I had it and the way my daughter always told me to get it again once the will is there.

Finally I weighted between a black 575, 2004 production 15'k, all in and a 430 Scud with 35'km's cosmetically very nice, proper serviced.....and then came a new add:

430 Scuderia 2009, 456 km's (!), rosso corsa, red stitching, 4 point harness, many Options, serviced twice, 456 km driven to and from serviced ferrari dealer location. Part of a huge collection. Price roughly 50% of sticker.....
Went to see the car, loved it.....new (if that is appropriate to say about a 5 year old car). My mechanic, who serviced the car all that time (and delivered it when new) said that the collection owner never sat in the car. Took underbody away, checked visually everything (even the plastic protection sticker on the inhouse Radio). Car will be serviced, 1 year power guarantee, MOT'd and of we should go....with the new "Warhorse".

Contract is not yet signed but underway. 50% of sticker prices is still a lot of money even for a 300 miles car...probably insane !

I hope Terry and Fabio will not hate me ?! Maybe next time the 575. ;-)

Funny how a long time of stalking turns out.....and after 5 years a "Scudely" again in the stable....hope everything is finalized in a good way and the car should be with me in 2-3 weeks.
Also hope that I did not bore you too much......!

Terry and Fabio many thanks again....you did a great job to help me....guess next time....after "D" time ?!

212!!!

Supercongratulations!!!

You have followed your heart. Knowing your driving style and that you are indeed a fast driver, I think coming "home" to "Scudeli" is a great choice!

The Scud is an epic sports car.

Beautiful car 212.
Never an easy choice between those various cars.
The up side is you were going to be happy no matter which one you chose.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

212- Hard to beat a new Scuderia, especially for half price. As usual, the best deals never make it to an advertisement before they are sold. Enjoy driving her.

That four point harness may turn out to be a pain for the street, but you can always swap for a 3 point and save the original one. Might be a couple of trim pieces needed, too..

Perhaps a couple of skid rails under the nose to protect the nose on bumpy switchbacks?
