I've driven together with some of the Singapore and Hong Kong owners on Fiorano. Unfortunately it is no surprise they crash their fine cars when they venture out from the city stroll onto open roads. I don't blame them, city strolling only does not make for coping with what these cars are capable of.

The difference is this: one refers to the pleasure of driving; the other (literally "shadow joy") refers to the pleasure derived from (seeing) others' pain. One is positive pleasure; the other, essentially negative pleasure. Putting it another way, to me those who attend NASCAR races mostly to witness huge pileups, etc. (the more fiery the better?) are experiencing Schadenfreude. Not good. I prefer to see really tight racing, well fought by all...no shunts needed. In other words, F1.

Maybe

But the person who experiences true Schadenfreude experiences pleasure as well, derived from an ostensibly negative event. But I suspect the sensation of pleasure to the individual is real and not negative. I'm not endorsing it but explaining.

Sorry for my misspelling on the thread......

Yes F1, F1 but some of my best friends like Nascar .....

Yes, to the person experiencing Schadenfreude pleasure is there, but (for example) if some religious extremists experienced Schadenfreude while watching accused witches burn at the stake it's difficult for me to understand how one could define that as positive pleasure??? Yes, pleasure, real pleasure, but negative nonetheless.

Moving on I have experienced true positive pleasure from seeing my new (to me) 328 GTS in my garage the last 2 days. Nothing "Schadenfreude" about that!!!!
