Sicily Tour

This early morning I came back from a wonderful tour thru and around Sicily with Capo and his agil and splendid Dino GTS.
After a beautiful 900km drive to Civittavechia, the ferry station before Rome, we lined into the the boarding convoy to the overnight ferryship to Palermo. That Ferry later went from Palermo to Tunis, tunesia....which is easy to be seen if you look the kind of cars and packages in particular...

We both had each a 4 person cabin room, which was quite nice and roomy.

Before entering the boat, we met a very nice, friendly sicilian along with his wonderful Fiat 500. He has 5 of them and was preannouncement in Person for the general friendliness of all the the Sicilians to meet on the trip. This guy contacted the General Ferry logistic guy promptly to assure us a nice, compleately protected car place on board (as the "Tunisia" Ferry had also free Deck car places to offer....no thanks !)

The only thing we needed to promise him was a photo of all 3 cars together when arriving in Palermo. Of course we did that, but were not expecting to do that in the middle of a busy street at midday......oh what the heck, we were in Palermo which is almost Africa anyway....

After leaving our new sicilian friend with the promise to visit him and his family for an Invitation near the other side of the Island near Trapani, our actual first part of the tour brought us to the wonderful town of Cefalu. Worthwhile a visit ! "D" and "D" always good for lots of cheering among the Italians stayed totally unprotected anywhere during our daily trips. Some impressions of Cefalu.....(hope not too boring)

On the main cathedral place in the Center, we found by accident a Restaurant of a good friend of Nino Vaccarella, who won the Targa Florio 3 times (if I'm correct). Many handsigned pictures were around the walls....some like these..

Then we went on to our hotel destination in Taormina. but instead of going all along the coast we tried one of those narrow sicilian pass roads steeply up in the hills to make sure we could excercise our "non-existing" tires change abilities in case of a puncture out in the nowhere..

..with the ever Smoking Mount Ethna first time nearby. The weather was generally very warm between roughly 25 to 35 degrees Celsius, a great time to travel Sicily.

The only technical Problem on the whole trip was Capos Dino with the lights, which means some electronic contacts in the steering wheel for the light activation went bust, some in the beginning, some more later before heading home, nothing serious but.... So we were looking for a mechanic...but all we found was this sympathic specialist for hydraulic elevation....

the next day brought us to the hot inside of the Country via Enna to Collesano. The change of nauture from the coastside was impressive. The way to Collesano, the village with the Targa Florio Museum was done on the old Targa Florio route.....

The Targa Florio was founded by a native Sicilian, Vincenzo Florio, and had its first Edition in 1906.

The last of the previous pictured showed us the remains of a crash of the local hero Nino Vaccarella in 1967 with his Ferrari 330 P4 in Collesano about 200 meters from the Museum. He was a big favorite but then.... This is the same curve today
