Brian- With more practice, you would get to love those round-abouts. They came in handy, too, because the road signs were not always logical in the 80s and early 90s. You would be following, say, the A13, and come to a roundabout with 6 exits and no A13 sign, just the name of some obscure village you never heard of. So make one or two trips around the round-about while the wife frantically looked for the correct village on the A13. Turned her into a pretty good map reader, though.
Also fun because they could be treated like a skid-pad.
Lots of rear-enders at round-about entrances where the trailing driver could clearly see there was plenty of room to enter, but the dolt up ahead thought it was too tight and stops. Especially bad when it was slick, which was most of the time.
