I Test Drove a '91 Testarossa

Couple of days ago I had opportunity to test drive a Testarossa. When I was hunting for my first Ferrari last year, I put several cars on my list, but discarded the Testarossa for various reasons so it did not make my short list. Of the cars I drove, my favorite was the 575 but I ended up with my 360 as it was more affordable and I like the exterior design a bit better.

So, I took the TR for a 10 minute drive. After 5 minutes I realized that I could never be happy with the TR ... the seat position is made for some one much shorter than 6'-1", the gear shift presses into my thigh, the steering wheel is too close to my chest and it is generally a very uncomfortable car. I don't mean to diss you TR people out there, but I know now why those cars all have very low miles. No one can stand to drive it very much.

I owned a TR, am 6'1" or 6'2" (on a good day) and had zero of the problems you are describing. I found the car to be extremely comfortable over short and long distances.

I think fitting in the car has more to do with the individual's 'frame' rather than purely based on height alone. Some people are all legs, some have long torsos, some are skinny, some need seat belt extenders, etc.

YMMV.

I own both a TR and 360 and the TR is still my favorite Ferrari.

Are you aware that the steering wheel is adjustable on the TR as it is in the 360?

Then again, I'm less than six feet tall and easily fit in the TR.

Too bad it didn't work out for you.

As it turns out, the TR has had some famous owners who are 6+ feet tall, including athletes.
That other Ferrari website has a "famous TR owners" thread I found to be quite interesting.

Well, to be fair, I did only spend a few minutes in it. The steering wheel was only one issue, but with the seat pushed back to the limit, the pedals were still positioned too close which forced me to bend my knees too much. I prefer that my legs are not so bent and outside of a seat mod, I expect that is not something that could not accommodate me.

Our TR really only gets used for long trips but we are both under 6 ft.

I have had a number of 6+ clients with TR's. A very common mod is to put in a steering wheel spacer to bring it closer to you. I was sold on that mod by a guy who was 6'2" or so.

Steering wheel adjusts and the seat slides, tips and reclines. Also on many the front seat bolster adjusts for leg support.
