The long way home......

Finally! The weather looks good, no rain, and my 550 is waiting for me at my Ferrari specialists! Most of the salt has been flushed away by the rain so no more waiting.
Had many things done so she should be in excellent shape. Normally the drive up is around 45 minutes, which today I will most probably do in a new world record....(fingers crossed there are no speed traps today)
My better half will drive the Range Rover home and yours truly......

The drive back home will probably be around 5 hours....really looking forward to it!
I might take a few pics and post them later today.

Hope you guys also have a great day!

Jeroen

Yesterday I picked her up at Forza, my Fguys. Polished and looking gorgeous I couldn't wait to take her for a long, well deserved drive. First I had a coffee together with David who happened to drop in as well. Was very nice seeing him again and we spent some time looking at the cars and talking about Fled, we're both looking very much forward to that! Was great to see you again, David!
Finally it was time to leave....first few miles to let her warm up and feel the difference as the riding hight was adjusted to standard specs. Wow, the handling and cornering improved significantly and the engine runs so smooth!
Inside the cockpit a lot of stuff has been straightened out like sticky parts and the interior has been thoroughly cleaned. The leather looks absolutely great now...what a car!
After a few miles I left the motorway and followed the small curvy roads on the dikes along 1 of our largest rivers. Starting out carefully I felt she was in her element so I attacked each bend a bit faster. The response of the engine, the contact with the road through the steering wheel, it all fell into place and suddenly I realized I was doing 110 km/hr on a 60km road....Bend after bend, massively enjoying the car and the view. The torque of this car when pushing the throttle coming out of the bends, the massive engine braking and just quickly touching the brakes whilst entering the corners, it really felt like the car was driving itself. I have driven these roads many, many times on my bike which is great, but the excitement and experience driving this beauty on these magnificent roads..wow, I am truly privileged to be the owner of this great 550. Funny thing is that when I take her out for a drive I always have this little nervous feeling of excitement, but on these roads it multiplied by 100! I felt I was smiling all the time and started pushing the car more. The more I pushed it, the better the ride got, this car is truly amazing! There was hardly any traffic so I was able to use the entire road and really feel what this car is all about. Very predictable (I know....never lose your focus or else...) smooth, powerful and, as I believe Boxer once said about one of his cars, it felt like it was getting smaller and I really became part of it. I was thinking of changing my sport seats to Daytona's but I completely changed my mind. The sport seats really make you 1 with the car, they're staying! I ended up emptying the tank, before I realized it I had done 200km...(3 times the same route) so I drove her home for a well deserved rest and a coffee for me. Now I feel my muscles, but what a great way to work out, I'm taking her out again in a minute!
Took this picture along the way and tweaked it a bit "TopGear style" hope you like it!

Nice to hear you're happy with the original seats, Jeroen, and that you're really getting into your 550 now. She's been nicely pampered, I understand, and is ready to serve you up some real dollops of excitement this summer! Will be great to see her on the road.

My 550 is not so happy, BTW, real clonking noise when I tried to drive her last Sat. I think there's something loose on the front suspension. Very strange, when I parked her there were no issues. But I guess it's time for another 550 to receive Alex's tender loving care and get back up to fighting strength.

Onno- Sorry to hear that. Sounds like the steering connections more than the suspension, from what you said.

Great photo and write up Jeroen!

Enjoyed a great day out around Scotlands quieter roads yesterday in my MC Stradale & my friend Mark and his customised 360 Spider, you'll meet him and see his beautiful car on FLED6, we had a similar exciting drive, the cars shrunk around us and the grins were huge....there's nothing like a great drive to make you feel alive!

I know my MC Stradale is a terrifically enjoyable car & so very capable, its a big car & its amazing how you can hustle it on a twisty road, beggars belief really as its near 5 metres long and 1700kg, anyhow, I was delighted to watch on last nights Top Gear it lapping Top Gear's UK Track within 0.2 seconds of a F430 especially when you consider the F430 is a 2 seat Supercar thats 400kg lighter!

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, today's a gift.....enjoy every minute!

Very nice picture Jeroen! I'm a sport-racing photographer and I would like to be behind this shot. Nice job! I really like your car and its funny because the last one I have seen in person (A 550, and a black!) was on a trip to Holland... I was following an incredibly cute young woman off the train in Weert... She climbed in the 550, I took a cab! I remember the feeling perfectly!

Possibly, it's just that it was making noise when driving straight as well, causing me to lean towards suspension. However, the steering was affected at full lock. We will see.

Thanks for the compliment! Nothing special, just fiddled a bit in Aperture, I'm not even close to an amateur photographer...
Would love to see some of your work, I might pick up a few pro tips...

The girl in Weert certainly had good taste!

Great writeup Jeroen, your car looks really good. Love black Maranello's! Fantastic to read your enthusiasm

Good luck Onno. Like Jeroen says she's in good hands with Alex. My F also has a problem at the moment (driver's door not opening) so the car's going to the boys at Forza very soon! It seems Alex is quite busy these days

Owning Ferrari's can be stressfull sometimes haha. I always tell myself it's the italian way of making cars, and it's all part of the "passion"

The drive back home after Alex fixed "the problem" is the best way to forget about it and remember why we love these cars

Yes, certainly hope so. It seems we're going to get a very nice spring so many oportunities to drive. Next out will be the Ducati Yellow Sport for a short ride and then I will pick up the Multistrada from the dealer where she spent winter.
It's gonna be a lovely season!
