I have always loved the Ferrari and the distinct sound of its engine. It was my late husbands love for the Dino did I actually being to really appreciate the older Ferrari's and the work and love that went into them.

Sounds like a man of very good taste! Did he have a Dino? Do you still have it?

Best wishes, John

My Ferrari fascination grew out of Maserati ownership, when I moved here to the United States in 2009 I was able to lease my first QP. I didn't buy my first F car until November of this year.

People say Maserati are the poor mans Ferrari and I don't think that is the case, I've owned three tridents in my time.

I think that notion is both accurate and inaccurate at the same time, but understandable. Today's Maseratis sell new for a fraction of the price of a new Ferrari and by necessity the cars reflect the price differences. That is largely a function of FIAT's decision when they acquired Maserati to design, manufacture and market the brands for different buyers. Of course, poor people cannot afford either Ferraris or Maseratis.

But step back a moment and recall that Enzo Ferrari began building cars under his name in 1947. Whereas Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati opened their “Società Anonima Officine Alfieri Maserati”, a car workshop in Bologna in 1914 and built the first Maserati automobile in 1926.

Alongside my 575M and 412 I have a 2003 Maserati Spyder that I treat with no less respect than the Ferraris. The Spyder's performance on the road is far closer to that of the 575M than the price difference would suggest. In fact, I believe that the Spyders are by a wide margin the best buys in the world today and, probably being the last two-seat sports cars Maserati will ever build, very likely to spike in value in the not-distant future.

They are certainly a lot cheaper than Ferraris, but I don't see my Granturismo as a Ferrari substitute. Just different.

How did you get into Ferraris?

Very well written, my friend. Lots of good memories, I remember reading about your garage “evolution” back in the days and it was always inspiring for me to read about your adventures and see the wonderful pictures you shared.

Can’t wait for part 2!! When will it be released??

Very nice and well written! This is a part that I had not known, since in 2008 I graduated and started working to finally buy my F-car and had little time to read about your Ferraru adventures here hehehehehe very convenient to read this “digest version” of the past 10 years!

Very interesting write up, thankyou. I heartily endorse what you said about Carrs: I started using them to service my 550 coming up to 6 years ago now, have since bought two cars from them (Dino and Maserati), and would recommend them to anyone without hesitation. They also happen to be a very nice bunch of people.

Best wishes, John

Yes. Lee is still running the show and there are two Marks - Ware (the one you mean, I imagine) and Tregenna.

Thanks and great. Was referring to Mark Ware - he always made sure the cars were very well taken care of.

He still does - nothing is too much trouble. My Dino is going in for some TLC from Harvey next week.

Mark Tregenna is on the sales side - he took us out to Modena to collect our Maserati from the factory.

Best wishes, John
