430 or 355

Should I be looking at a 1997 F1 355 Spider for around $38000, or a 2007 430 F1 Coup for $150000. I know different cars. I interested in opinions. My last Ferrari was a new 308 gtsi 1983.

Thanks in advance.

What are you trying to accomplish with the car? they are pretty dramatically different. I think most people would prefer the 430 overall. Truly an amazing car.

Between the two choices, it would be the latter. Back then, I was not all that impressed with the F1 of 355. Manual stick would be a better choice for 355. But then, like wetpet mentioned, there are other subjective considerations. w/ smiles Jimmy

My friend has a Stradale and a 16m and says for the money and value the 355 F1 is the way to go. Although I love the look of the 430 over the 355. I could keep 100 grand differance in the bank too. I'm just not sure. The 430 market is soft now and there is alot to choose from. I probably couldn't pick a better time to get into a clean low mileage 430.
What say you?

CV, You should LOOK at them both and pursue the one that SPEAKS to you. As their prices indicate, they are radically different cars, to the point your question is almost impossible to answer.

Start by reading the Buyers Guides for each, then drive them both. Only then can you have a discussion about choice.

Nice dilemma to have though...

I would personally avoid the F1 355 and find a manual spider instead.

If you wait a little longer, you may be able to buy both cars...... not an 07 but a 430 never the less...... I am half joking, but I also see a lot of 355's that have come onto the market recently.....(true story....honest....I had a chance to buy an 07 430, 6 Speed manual, rear challenge grill, nice car, 16K miles, dealer maintained for 125K this May where I bought my 575M F1......I was almost tempted in lieu of the 575M......but the 575M appealed to me more)

Like the other guys said; you need to read up on and then DRIVE these cars to get a feel for which one appeals to you more, for your own reasons and satisfaction.

Keep us posted.
Good luck!

Not that easy to test drive a 355F1 and then a 430F1. But I guess time is on my side and if I'm able over a couple months I should be able to do. The 355 just looks dated to me. Inside and out. The 430 is more in keeping with the times with fewer maintanence issues. I'm sure both drive great with their own pluses and minuses which leaves me with the choice of looks and performance to compare. My dealer has an 09 with 1500 miles on it for 189000. He's nuts but what a beauty- 1 owner like brand new. Looking for an 07 in great shape with all docs. Thanks

If you buy the 355 expect to buy a 430 in a year or less

If you have the means the 430 will get a lot more use with a lot less headaches.

I really like the 355 but not when given a choice of a 500 hp 430.

F355= Engine out major every 3-5 years to change cambelts, etc. First generation F1 with no digital throttle. The one you are looking at for that price undoubtedly needs a major. Car is cheap initially, but....

F430= No major ever and cam chains that do not need replacing. Fifth or sixth generation F1 with much smoother and quicker shifting. Much lower maintenance time/costs and less downtime as a result. Manettino and other ergonomic improvements. Car is expensive initially, but....
