308 vs. Mondial

I can't decide whether I want comfort or out right sportiness. I love the classic appeal of the 308 but i would also like to be able to have some friends in the car. Which do you guys think would be the best starter Ferrari and why? Thanks in advance!

I like the Mondial, but it just doesnt have the pure sex appeal of the GTS/GTB. I know the drivetrains are identical, etc.... So the sounds are pretty similar, but the GTS/GTB are simply so iconic and so freaking beautiful that I simply cannot choose the Mondial over one. Literally, you are talking about one of if not THE most beautiful car ever built.

Its no comparison.

maybe you shouls ask yourself who your buying it for

in a 308 you can take one friend at the time, in a mondial well, i hope you have small friends only

currently a '87 euro 328gts, a '83 euro 308gts and 2x 308gtb. (and still some old Audi's)

I would go for the two seater. You wouldn't want to stick those friends in the back seat....their thrill will last only the first five min. and they'll bill you for the chiropractor.

If the Mondial is good enough for Al, it must be good enough for you.

Go with the Mondial and drive it with your eyes closed.

You won't know the difference.

Carbs make the right sound, but the QV is a bit more reliable from most accounts. Thats one reason I have a QV.

JB- He means induction sounds from the Webers. Exhaust sounds pretty much depend on the exhaust fitted and most 308s sound good. Seems like mine had an OEM Ansa and sounded very good, but the Webers inhaling deeply sounded pretty awesome, too.

The injection cars can make pretty induction noises, too, but you usually have to have a BMC or K&N air filter to help, and I do not like oil upstream of my MAF meters. Even then, not as pure a sound as the Webers.

Forza

november 2005 FORZA,,,has an excellent piece on Mondial VS 328...it will give you an idea,,, ,, when they are talking about the 328,,,things will be different with a 308.(328 handles better and is much faster than a 308,,and has a better suspension.etc) ..as far as exhaust,,intake..are concerned,,,i have a 328 with a K & N,,,TUBI,,and a LARINI TEST PIPE,,,and my car sounds ..well...in my opinion,,,better than any 3x8 on the road,,,,,way before i ever bought my 328,,,i read in several magazines,,including Forza,,that if you can get a 328,,,you should,,its a better car..of course,,no disrespect to the 308,,,it looks the part,,and was what i wanted since i was a teenager...but i was able to get a 328,,,so i did,,,good luck,,Brett..PS..im always of the opinion,,,that the 328,,,was the best car Ferrari has ever made,,,if your looking for a true driving machine,,,with a 1970 s derived F1 feel..with much input from Niki Lauda,(on the 308/328),,2 time Ferrari F1 world champ..Lauda also won again in 84 ,,with Mclaren,,,,the 328 is to the 308,,the way the F40..is to the 288 GTO...i believe thats a fair assesment,,,if you have some time,,,you can also research Forzas issue,,that had the 328 and the 308 compared,,,,either way,,,when you get your 3x8,,,,its going to be a love affair,,,that ,,,if your like me,,,will never end in a divorce,,,i will never,,,ever sell my 328,,,they will bury me in it,,!!!!!!!!

308 gtsi Quartrovavole is the way to go. No problems with the fuel ijection as apposed to carbs. i bought my 308gtsi new in 1983. Never had a problem in the 3 years I owned it. It was never serviced either i think. Dealer was too far away. I traded it for a 911 turpo Porsche in 1986. Ferrari was sure an eye catcher. Magnum PI car.

I think I'm going with the QV because of the extra reliability.

Thanks Brett I'll definitly have to take a look at that if i can find it. In the August issue they also had a great article about the 328 and they had nothing but good things to say about it. Great pics by the way!
