Question about PPI

Dear Members:

I'm just brand new on this forum and would like some advice from you on PPI's.
I'm planning on buying my first Ferrari ( most likely a 2000 or 2001 Modena) within the following year and so far have read several posts made on this forum recommending a PPI and to purchase a buyers guide which it is on its way.

However, I would like to know what a PPI should include. Is this something that a Ferrari service shop would tell me or I need to specify the scope (i.e. engine, body, paint inspection and so forth) of the PPI? If I need to specify, what scope would you recommend?

How much should I be billed for a PPI?

Please advice

You should have an idea of what a PPI should include and ask the shop you're entrusting what they do for a PPI. Then compare notes and ask questions accordingly.

A PPI is a complete but fairly basic assesment of the car's entire condition visually an mechanically. You basically want an inspection of condition and function of every system in the car.

The Buyer's Guide will give you a good idea of the areas specific to the 360 to be concerned about.

I always include a road test and engine compression/leakage test in my PPI's.

Dear ECS of Virginia:

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like the buyers guide will provide to me those critical points to be checked on the PPI. Then I should request from the service shop a listing of the points to be inspected and ask questions on anything missing or not covered.

Would the service shop be able to tell me whether a major maintenance would be needed even if they have not serviced the vehicle before or records are not available? Is there any website that could tell me ( based on the vehicle the vin number) whether the vehicle has been serviced in the USA?

Your reply will be well appreciated
