New Ferrari Preview...

Received this email today. Judging by the image in the email it looks to be for the new 612 and not the new F1 car that is being unveiled on the 24th

that 612: Is that the wagon concept they are touting or a really different example of the 612?

I'm assuming it's for the actual 612 replacement and not the concept shooting brake, even though the replacement is officially being unveiled to the public in March at Geneva. Ferrari did the same thing with the California by giving it an online preview where every couple of days a new feature was revealed on a dedicated site just for the California before the public got to see it in the flesh at the Paris Motor Show. We will have to wait and see tomorrow if Ferrari will be doing the same thing or something different this time.

I would "speculate" that the 612 replacement has 660 HP and is a 4 wheel drive car.

Spoke to Ronnie Kessel who saw it at the factory and yep, it is definitely moving towards the Panamera segment with all the Panamera bells and whistles. According to Ronnie it is the actual replacement of the 612. That's a pitty but you never know. The replacement is so far off the 612 concept they might consider yet another model, a 4x2 two door which will be the true replacement of the 612.

I actually don't mind Ferrari making a good, reasonably lightweight 4x4 GT. As long as it is not through eliminating existent models and as long as they really try hard finally to limit the supply and raise the price, for heaven's sake. I want expensive and few Ferraris of each model. Also, if the new 4x4 should happen to cannibalize on the California I wouldn't run out to the baricades over it... Fewer of the California will help itself becoming more exclusive.

If the new 4x4 turns out to be my teacup I might consider trading my MB G55 for it and have it do the G55's winter job and trailer pulling, maybe...

I'm going to see it at the factory next Thursday. The info I have (though not confirmed) is -

6.3 litre V12
670 bhp
0-62 (0- 100 km/h) 3.7 secs
199 MPH (320 Km/h)

This interior spy pic appeared online today.

Ferrari should divide the models

You do have something there as it is obvious Ferrari will venture into this market. I don't see one pulling a trailer based on the spy pic below. An all wheel drive is ok by my standards: I love what AUDI does with thiers.

ya' this ain't no trailer hauler.

IF Ferrari is going the SUVish route, they would be better to just bling out the Maser factory with Ferrari engines and let it go. Diminishing the Ferrari logo with the new 612 if as above, harkens back to that ugly commercial I had to watch where the guy has his cell phone to the tailpipes of his Porsche-SUV, sipping coffee in a bathrobe and saying "ya' I know, awsome isn't it.[tricycle in the sideshot].." made me gage to thing someone felt a SUV was the same as the 911 and daddy is recapturing his un-tethered/batchelor moments by getting an 'awsome' SUV with a nice logo and TUBIs

4x4 and 670bhp can pull my trailers any time. I don't struggle imagining myself pulling motorsport trailers with a Ferrari. As long as Mr. and Mrs. Verbier Weekenders don't fill the roads with thousands and thousands of the thing. Ferrari should not be chest pounding in the Porsche direction, more towards Bugatti, if you ask me.

Well, it's official. 660bhp Cayenne with similar ugly looks and 4WD but 2 doors.

I'm not a fan. Not just because of the looks but I feel that Ferrari are making the same mistake as Porsche. Just going after money. This is a car that will do very well in Dubai. It's a great car to go BBQ in the dunes with and then tear up the main strip downtown. That is not what Ferraris were ever about, IMHO.

I think you are making a very good and worrying point Onno. There is a risk going after volume business if your name is Ferrari. Your summing it up says it all: -"That is not what Ferraris were ever about."

That said, I will hold my opinion until I see the car in the metal. I'm still not ruling out owning one as an all year, all weather means of transport here in the Swiss mountains. Although I find that unlikely because of fears that the Verbier mob's wives and the Gstaad mob's mistresses are going to be driving them. If that proves to be the case I shall happily continue with my ultra cool G55.

Agreed; Enzo never would have allowed something like this. He must be spinning in his grave.

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.
