Here's the $129 one I bought awhile back for shooting headers. Before this, I had borrowed someone's $500 Snap-On, but it only went to 950 or 1000 degrees, and a couple times it became "blinded" by some superhot runners and wouldn't read.
Mine goes to 1400, and so far, has worked fine.
BTW, these aren't recommended for shooting shiny surfaces as they confuse the laser. Only dull metal or dark ceramic coatings will read well.
This one came with an auxiliary K thermocouple which is good for taking contact measurements up to 2000 degrees F.
Just after I bought mine (about 2 years ago) I found a Craftsman model that also went to 1400, and only cost around $79 or $99....

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.
