Synthetic oil

I am the new owner of a 2002 575M Maranello. Reading through the owners manual it says to use Shell oil. In my other past and present cars - including a '57 chevy and a C5 Corvette - I have used Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I am inclined to do the same in the Ferrari when it comes time for an oil change. Do any owners or technicians have any experience with using synthetic oil?

The Shell Oil Ferrari recommends is fully synthetic. I have always stayed with the Ferrari recos on the modern models and never had an issue.

Any brand name synthetic should be just fine as long as they have an acceptable weight available…the weight is really the import thing to watch.

Agree with Mark...any synthetic is fine. I'm partial to Castrol Syntec for no other reason than its widely available (any walmart) and I've been using it for years.

FYI on the Mobile 1...you should google ZDDP. Its a major additive to mobile 1 and there appears to be some controversy about it and the effect on Cats. Not sure I buy into the controversy but its worth a read.

I use Redline for all fluids, as I like the quality and like to overspend [] as well as support a local company. But as synthetics go, they are almost all good in today's technology....provided you buy from good sources.
