Ferrari 599 Hybrid - crazy or insane?

You have probably seen the news about the Ferrari 599 HYKERS (HYbrid Kinetic Energy Recovery System) doing the media circuit. It may not yet be confirmed for production, but it is on the front burner for Ferrari. If they indeed role the hybrid out on the 599, it is a matter of time before the 458/California sees it applied.

The 599 HYKERS is faster, has a lower center of gravity, better fuel mileage and not much heavier, surprisingly. Porsche is also hot on the hybrid path, including applications for racing.

A hybrid Ferrari... Is this CRAZY (cool) or INSANE (stupid)? I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Previously owned:
1982 308 GTSi; red/tan
1983 308 GTSi QV; red/tan
1997 F355 Spider; 6-speed; red/tan
2006 F430 coupe; 6-speed; red/tan

If it is faster, has a lower COG and has lower energy consume, what can be wrong about that?

way of the new world order: we'll have to get used to it, like push starters and no more hand cranks.

It's HEAVIER! The CG is lower because the extra weight is mounted low. Byh "faster" they would mea 0-60 or some other acceleration number, not the lap times of top speed which are affect by weight or sustained output respectively. The hybrid Ferraris will be slower cars because they are heavier cars, math works every time.

Ferrari may very well offer the model but it's a lot like the hydrogen (capable) cars that were meant to exploit a tax law and were never actually intended to operate on hydrogen……
