California with manual transmission..

Leaked: Ferrari California Manual Transmission Performance Specs

The "chick's Ferrari" as it's derisively/adoringly called by various camps, will soon get a manual gearbox to supplement the dual-clutch unit that's currently the only option. A document leaked recently reveals that the car's performance specs will take a bit of a hit when swapping cogs yourself.

A hit of about two-tenths of a second to 62 mph, that is. The seven-speed automated dual-clutch in the California helps rocket the V-8-powered car to 62 mph in just under four seconds, while the six-speed manual will require nearly 4.2 seconds, according to the leaked document. Top speed remains unchanged, however, at 193 mph. Fuel economy is down a bit on the EU combined cycle as well, from 17.8 mpg with the dual-clutch to 15.8 with the manual.

While the manual is by definition not as sophisticated as the dual-clutch alternative, it's still a high-tech set of gears: double-cone synchros with multiple pawl asymmetric geometry, an oil bath lever and fork system, and rear-mounting to preserve the California's 47/53 front/rear weight distribution.

The manual gearbox California will be available this month in Europe, with the U.S. likely to join the party shortly after.

I like it, but thinking that will be one rare example and probably turn into some collector car down the road...sort of like the Valeo Mondial Ts, where the Coups are so rare, that I am thinking only about a hand full exist.

Not many will opt for the 'chicks' car as you put it in manual, which would mean I'D buy the manual just because.

Then this bodes well for a manual 458!

I have heard that Ferrari has already replaced a few double clutch trannys. Does not sound good!

Yup: Secret..... NOT. Directly from over four persons having their tranny fixed on a new car.

As for the Manual on the 458, hmm, hoping. Would NOT be a good item to leave out a manual, but like Ferrari said: "we will never build a [fill in the blank that can later be modifed to true] car".

Heard also the performance package for the 575 is now in kit for FROM Ferrari for about, what, $12-15k or such.

SO: Why not let drivers, mod their stock Ferraris....

Also surprised that I designed an after-market replacement transmission oil cooler for 360's and following, and now I see it is standard equipment on the 458!

No more water cooled transmission coolers.

Isn't that interesting!

I was thinking the same. Might this mean the 458 could see a manual in the near future?

I wonder if this will be an automatic change. Or if it will take some time.

Would this be considered a shift in policy?

Do the following with no spaces: [ b ] text [ / b ]

(or does itouch not have brackets and slashes?)
