Looking forward to it!

My first trip to Amelia looks to be terrific. Besides the usual seminars, concours, etc., we're attending the Gooding and RM auctions which both have some spactacular cars to see. Any F-life/F-chat gatherings planned?

don't know of any. But if you see a guy walking around with an HD video camera, come up and say hi.

Saturday at Amelia

Saturday, things started to get interesting. Got into the Shelby,Petty, and Garlitz discussion. Very cool.

Couldn't get near Shelby. My buddy Steve spoke to him Friday night at a social event of some sort. He said Caroll was real tired. He's getting up there in the years. Caroll had some great stories. Petty was very entertaining, Garlitz more straightforward but still interesting.

I walked around the RM auction which had some heavy hitter cars going for big bucks. Didn't see the results as of yet.

Did a couple of interviews with Porsche, Mercedes, and Spyker. Had a quick photoshoot with a blue Spyker.

Then it was on to the field. Saturday is a very cool in the afternoon when they start loading the field. You hear all these wonderful roars of Petty stock cars, Porsche 917, 66 Ford GT40, 427 and 289 Cobras, then you see a silent 30's Rolls slither by.

Ran into a bunch of friends and acquaintances. This was a huge event with over 250 cars on the field.

cheers

ken

That black Spyker with the red interior is giving me wood! What is the green roadster with the five stars and spinners? Sort of looks like an e-type. I'm digging that too!

Current: 85' GTS QV

The blue Spyker looks awesome, much better looking than the coupe I saw a few years ago in Carmel during the car weekend there. Great pics Ken!

From the top of my head - it's the Jaguar XJ13, a prototype with 5 litre engine that was built for Le Mans in 1967, but due to a rule change banning 5 litres it was shelved. It was crashed horribly (180mph or something like that) back in the day and then languished at the factory for decades. It was recently restored by the Jaguar factory and is now part of the factory museum but taken out several times a year. There was a fantastic article in the Octane magazine on this car in 2008 or 2009.

It is one of the all time prettiest race cars ever built IMHO. I saw it at Goodwood (see also the 113 sticker denoting participation at Goodwood) and seeing that engine through the glass deck is truly special!

I interviewed the British gentleman from Jaguar all about that car. Almost exactly as you described. It was shelved after being made obsolete. Then, in 72 it was rolled back out to celebrate the release of the v-12 E type. Then crashed then shelved.

It was spectacular to see and hear. Gorgeous car!

watched the f1 race with armando cifuentes. he drove a 500 TRC (0690md TR) in the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix in Havana. Castro's forces had kidnapped Fangio before the race. Cifuentes apparently slid on some oil on the track, hit a curb and launched his TR into the crowd. 7 dead and up to 40 injured. Cifuentes was critically injured and his teammate put him on the bonnet of his tr and drove him to the hospital. amazing story. youtube video of 0690 below.

Is it this the one? Goodwood Revival 2007, don't know the chassis number.

Looking up on Barchetta.cc, the car I photographed is 0682MDTR, not 0690MDTR.

that's probably what it looked like before the crash. i'm pretty sure the photo i posted was a contemporary shot in red. The same restorer dk engineering must have done both.

Nice to see photos of 'The King', looking like he's enjoying himself. He's far more of a legend to me than any other stock car driver.

Thanks for posting the photos!
