Ferrari historic Challenge Europe 2010 cancelled?

Just heard that the Ferrari historic challeng in Europe has been canceled for 2010 after being runned for many years (15?) without interuption !?

Anyone may confirm this or know's more about it ? That would be sad, especially for those who bought and nurtured their precious stable for that occasion!

heard there was a bit of a backlash to all the cars needing to be classiche certified.

Yes, I do think that had something to do with it. The field was basically too thin and the pressure by Ferrari for its certification didn't help. It's a real shame, I've never seen them race in real life but there was a National Geographic 1 hour documentary on it about 10 years ago, which I've got on DVD (thanks to someone being diligent with their video recorder and then converting it to disc). It's amazing! I wish I had seen some of those races live, truly something special.

Really! classiche is the problem? That kinda sucks.

Guess if you slap a KERS on it you can be back in.

In late january, I received an email from David Seibert, who had been under contract w/ Ferrari to run the North American series. I'll cut and paste that email here when I get to work tomorrow. At least for the North American series (I don't know as much about what led to the European series' demise), my understanding is that some combination of classiche, internal politics and the world economy resulted in smaller and smaller grids.

The marketing/PR/Event management at Ferrari has been a bit of a mess for a while. The guy they brought in from Red Bull to head Marketing pushed through a number of changes, did not manage the execution well, and then left to Lotus last fall.

My [internet/rummour] understanding is, they were having their track time cut, and the event became too much of a workout with little return.

But, it's the Internet afterall.

I'll just bet, that when the historics go away.....attendance will greatly diminish. Perhaps that is the goal.

In general Ferrari seems to be pulling out of customer events. They killed off the Fiorano Ferrari program and now seem to be doign the same to the Historics. The number of other special events that the factory used to organize every summer has also been reduced to nearly zero.

No Historics, no FXX/Corsa Cliente at Infineon Challenge event California today either. Only 10 F430 challenge cars as well - Most disappointing.. It was a fun day with the Ferrari folks all the same but the stands were mostly empty, almost no visitors, not surprising as no advertising for the event happened. Feels like Ferrari has no budget or little interest.

Think it is an interest issue. Given that they can afford to pay Kimi $30 mil not to drive for them this year, probably not a cash issue.

well, thought of calling you Dermot, but honestly on Sunday, we made the morning pilgrimage to Gloria's for our morning four glasses [2 ea] champagne, but before that went to Infineon and saw the lackluster event, and just spun about in the entry way and off for Gloria's.

Don't know Ferrari's attempt. I know the Italian venue can be a last min. in terms of organization, but this was over a year in the making: it's not the economy, as they over spend sometimes. It's the LOCATION.

They feel the NA market, if not the 'older well established' Euro market is locked: They are moving resources to newer areas like ME, and Asia.

We are now the step-children and the token fling.

The people I feel a bit for, although they seem to almost do ok, are the historic folks, who showed the banner from old-now. Many a historic racer had a NEW pony in the area. And NOW they are out of a shared track time.

shucks

Actually that was of debate. Should have grabbed the bottle and off to Infineon---of COURSE NO DUI---honestly, I am a big NO fan of degenerative driving....there would have been adequate time to recoup.

Yet, for some reason this nice weekend was, we went home, tried a bunch of new receipes, she deserts, me BBQ, went light on the wine, and we just relaxed..

last week were [email protected] for both of us. Should have actually 'partayeed' but, guess I truly AM getting old.

tread mill is about doing me in, let alone weights...sigh.

Love the pics you posted.. Noticed one old timer. dang.
