What and When was the first Ferrari you rode in?

For me it was back in 1983 when Dad brought a 1963 250GTE home for a test drive. Sat in the back and was enthralled by the V12 music up front when Dad took the family for a test run. The 250 was to be a trade in plus cash for Dad's 1979 930 but unfortunately the deal did not happen. Later that year a 1970 Dino 246gt first series was traded in on the turbo and I enjoyed many happy times as Dad's co-pilot in that Dino.

Experiences in Dino can be a lasting one, indeed, Vitalone.
Let me see, I think my first ever sit in was years ago in one of the Ferraris by Bertone. All I remember at the time was the angular lines. It was my friend's car (he was older than me). To be honest, I wasn't too impressed at the time. Didn't know a thing about Ferrari. That's how I was at the time. My suspect that it was a 80's model ?
As a sidenote, he also owned Porsche Turbos. As you may suspect, I was not very impressed with that either. All I remember about the noise, small interior and why would anyone spend so much for a car like this !!! His rule was to buy new, change every three years, and color was white. w/ smiles Jimmy

For me, it was my brother's 328. He had kept buying it a complete secret from everyone and then he phoned me during the weekend that Schumi became Ferrari world champ for the first time (October 2000) that he owned a Ferrari. I first rode in it when I got back to Holland a month or so later, and at the end of his drive he let me drive it for about half an hour. Every time I pass that corner I first sat behind the wheel, I remember that moment. It was a magical thing - I had been a Ferrari fan all my life and reality really lived up to the fantasy in my head. It had a great sports exhaust - I can still remember hearing it passing underneath the highway from my parents' house (that's over a kilometer away).

Now - I've driven a reasonable cross spectrum of Ferraris (I think about 11 models from 1966 to 2008), but the 328's still haven't diminished their shine. They're proper Ferraris. Lovely cars.

What is sad, for me, is that my brother was forced to sell that 328. Would've been nice not to be the only Ferrari owner in the family. Well, perhaps my younger brother will make good...

I've had a love for Ferrari since the age of 7 watching Magnum P.I with my dad and over the years I met many people who ''knew'' of a Ferrari owner and would organise a ride for me, but after many broken promises, that time eventually came. 20 years later in February 2008 I got my first ride in a Ferrari being the F355 Berlinetta that had a Tubi exhaust. This was also the very first time I had even sat in a Ferrari. The experience, feelings and emotions that came over me in that roughly 20 minute ride would never be forgotten. Nor will that sound!!

Great topic! My first Ferrari ride was coincidentally the first one I drove. I worked as a detailer for American Service Center in Arlington, VA. in the Summer of 1985. Along with Mercedes they also sold Ferrari. My first drive was interesting in that the car was a silver with red 308 QV. I had just finished cleaning it up for a client as part of a service we provided to owners on their birthdays. As I drove it back around to the service bay I looked over the car with scrutiny. One thing that stood out was the fact that this was a GTS but it had a GTB fuse panel cover. Weird! It was a beautiful car and made all the right noises as I drove it the four blocks back around front. I'd never forget it.

Flash forward to the fall of 2003 when I started actively looking for a Ferrari to call my own. I had wanted a Black/red or Blue/Red QV. I see an ad in Collector Car Trader for a silver/red 308 in South Carolina. I wasn't enamoured with the color but I called the owner anyway. We agree on a price, and I drive down with my dad in February of 04 to look at, and more than likely buy, the car. It didn't set in until I was looking at the extensive collection of service receipts that night in the hotel room this was the very first Ferrari I ever drove back in 1985. The clincher was the GTB emblem where there should have been a GTS on the fuse panel cover. That made the trip home that much more enjoyable. I've had a grin on my face ever since.

Current: 85' GTS QV
It's a simple process...... it's just complicated by human beings....

Hi,

The first Ferrari I ever owned was a red 308 GTS QV. It was on a panoramic poster, on my bedroom wall when I was a teenager. Then the room was getting redecorated a few years later, the posters had to come down and they never went back up. Life moves on.

Then there was a Bburago die-cast model of a 288 GTO, also in red, a couple of years later. Fabulous little thing, the detail was wonderful for a toy. Then it got put away to keep kids from messing with it, and it's still in a box in the attic somewhere.

The first time I got to sit in an actual Ferrari (as opposed to a paper one) was twelve days ago. It was a 1984 308 GTS QV, black with cream leather and black piping. The owner took me for a spin which included driving under a bridge, and the noise from the exhaust was spectacular.

The first time I drove a Ferrari was five days ago. It was the same black 308, and I was taking it home with me.

Now my only wish is that it would dry up enough for me to bring it outdoors, because there isn't room enough in the shed to stand and look at it properly...

People often accuse me of thinking the entire world revolves around me. It doesn't. It revolves around the SUN... which shines out of my ar$e.

Black 328 that i was test driving.

I'd like to add, although no one offered me a sit or ride until i was 40 something and buying, i have personally given over 100 people that experience. And i give good rides around the block. I pretty much try to get it up to 100mph for everyone i take out. None have expressed their displeasure. I will say that some girls have to let me take lewd pictures for the privilege. But that is a small price to pay, isn't it?

My first true Ferrari experience was aged 11, on holidays in Northern Italy (having driven with my parents and brother and sister from Ireland), we arrived in a small town somewhere about an hour over the border from France.

Stopped off for ice-cream and a stroll only to find a Ferrari owners convention in the middle of the town square. It was 1989 and the square was full of the cars that covered the walls and ceiling of my bedroom, 3 F40's parked up beside us, just tantalisingly out of reach, and in total probably 60 - 70 F cars were in attendence. To this day my bedroom at home (parents home!!!) is covered in the pictures taken that day. I promised myself that I would someday own a Ferrari as we drove away from the town.

18 years later (3 months short of my self imposed deadline) I actually took a drive in a Ferrari. The same Ferrari that sits in my garage now and I expect will be in my posession for it's foreseeable future.

I don't remember exactly which one I drove first but the first time was when I was invited to instruct for the Mid Atlantic FCA. I got to drive a Daytona, 512 BBI, Front Engine Dino and a couple 308's and 328's on the track. I didn't even know what most of them were. I was dissapointed becuase I didn't get to drive a TR that day. It was the only Ferrari I knew besides the 308.

Garage
October 13th 1979, my 17th birthday, 4.20pm, red 1973 246 Dino Targa. My Dad arranged it with a friend who had 2 of them. Never forget looking over the tops of the front wings. I'd been a Ferrari follower from the late 60's but that drive although only 10 minutes lead me to this day

Only others I've actually been driven in were a 512BBi (the quickest I ever went in any car to this day), 2 Mondials, a Testarossa, a 355, a 599 and a California. I did get to sit in Fangios 250TRMM at Goodwood, a mates 360 CS and a 400i Cabrio.
But most memorable was going to German Motor show when the F40 was launched to see that car alone. I suspected I would never see one over here (and I was right). The trip was worth it as the Sales man on the Ferrari stand spent almost an hour showing me round the car. He was quite taken that someone from Ireland would go all that way to see one car. Well it is my all time fav Ferrari.

First ride was when I was 14 yrs old in a 308 GTS that belonged to my father's friend. He would let anyone drive it so my dad took me for a spin. Was so blown away by the acceleration and handling and talked about it for days. The owner said that when I get my license, which was 4 yrs away at the time, I could drive the car. Never did get to drive it. First one I drove was my own about a month ago. Can't get enough!!.

The first time I bought my own Ferrari was quite memorable. I was doing all this research from the deserts in Mali where I was working. I shared my search for a 550 online, which took 9 months in total, and during it made some Ferrari-owning friends. They recommended a certain specialist in Holland. The day my shares came in, I phoned him and said I was looking for a 550, blue or black. He said - "there's a very special one coming in tomorrow, as it happens. It's a unique night blue". He sent me pics of all the things wrong with it (just small scratches and such), which I liked - he was being honest about its condition. My mates went to look at the car for me and gave the thumbs up.

And so I bought it - without ever having driven a 550, nor even ridden shotgun!

A couple of weeks later I arrive from Africa at Schiphol Airport, where I am picked up by one of my friends in his 550 Maranello. My first experience of the model! Quite the appetizer when you're on your way to seeing your first Ferrari. When we arrive at the specialist, the car is covered by a tarp and my name is on the car. Several forum friends, that I have never met before, have shown up to welcome me. There was a nice handover ceremony, it was all just heart warming. I did a quick tour around the block as some of the funds still needed to be transferred, but it was a magical day. A week later I picked the car up in the most sunny of days and she is still a pride and joy of mine 35,000kms/21,000 miles later.

Sometimes you have to trust your instincts - when all signs say it's right, chances are it is! Even though it sounds a bit mad to buy your first Ferrari sitting in the desert without seeing it first.

My first drive/ride was a Challenge Stradale about 2 years ago. I have lusted over them for years. I love the looks of the 360 better than all of the others. The Chalenge Stradale is the ultimate 360. Well, it seemed rough riding and quite loud. I also test drove a manual stick shift 360. I ended up with the F1 360 I have now that I will never sell. They're great cars. I can never say enough about them. The only other car I really loved was my 914/6. I cried when I sold that. I wish I still had it.

The Ferrari concessionaire took the whole day off to explain and show me the whole current model line. First the 355 (which was my first F-driving experience) then the 550 and at last the 456 M. I ordered the 550 right away and 3 month later was the proud owner of my first Ferrari. Although always being interested in the "Ferrari theme", I became 38 to actually get one personally.
