Went to see my potential purchase today, and...

Further to my first post below, I went to see the Red Ferrari F430 F1 Spider for the first time today. Weather conditions meant that neither the dealer or myself really wanted to test drive the car, the rain and sleet was absolutely pelting down, so not ideal.

I could not fault the car. It was absolutely and utterly MINT and like new. Just over 1,000 miles, and like it left the showroom brand new in 2007.

I saw the service history, which was perfect, had its PDI plus a couple of minor recalls. Then a service in November 2009. One owner vehicle supplied by the dealer now selling it on behalf of the initial client.

My first time even sitting in a Ferrari. My initial thought was that there wasn't a great deal of headroom with the roof up - but the more I moved the seat around and played, the more comfortable it become. Roof down, no problem.

Price wise, I can't find any better. Condition is perfect, remainer of Ferrari warranty until May 2011.

So what's not to like?

Well I left the dealer and said I'd let him know for sure in the morning. My heart says go for it - my head is telling me that maybe, just maybe, I'll find the driving experience (from a seating point of view) uncomfortable.

Remember, I'm coming out of a Range Rover Vogue! And the fear is that in a month I'll be thinking "why did I do this?"...

Any comments as to the comfort / seating position?

thanks all

here is my comment. if you are unhappy with the driving experience in a month, get your self fitted for a casket cause you died a month ago and no one told you. really. If you have got them down as far as you can, go get it. No disappointments. I promise.

try this and then try to wipe the smile off your face. won't happen.

Thorpey's big decision

[So what's not to like?]

If its the car for you then asked and answered

[And the fear is that in a month I'll be thinking "why did I do this?"...]

I don't think so. It highly unlikely. It will be more likely that you will be saying " why didn't I do this sooner ". However, I can imagine how you are feeling. I remember when I bought my 430 spider. I walked out of the showroom feeling elated. There was also a feeling of " holy shit! I've just spent how much on a toy?". The holy shit feeling passed really quickly. Then it was the anticipation of delivery. And finally your fist drive. Press that big red button and all thoughts of "why did I do this" were answered and then some. Wetpet is right - drive on the revs and just try wiping that smile off your face.( but be careful at first - you are about to enter a whole different world)

Seating - the seats are adjustable. Only you can know if they adjust to suit your frame. For me the cabin is a great place to be. At least the equal of my 550 - and thats a Gran Tourer and designed to be comfy. The ride will be stiffer than you are perhaps used to - but then it is a sports car after all.

Let us know what you decide and post photos if you take the plunge

Congrats due here. Don't worry, you would come up with your justifications after you buy it. Things won't be normal as usual tho. The 8 y. o. inside you is already trying to come out again. w/ smiles Jimmy

Thanks guys. Having slept on this over night I've decided to go for it. What the hell. You only live once eh?

I think Ollenaram550 might have been close to the mark as well. There certainly IS a "holy shit" factor about spending a hundred grand on, what is after all, just a toy! I sure as hell can't take it shooting!

Hopefully I can firm up the deal today. Speak soon and thanks again everyone.

Go for it. I haven't met a Ferrari owner yet that regretted the purchase.

Dear Thorpey,
It is totally understandable that there is a debate going on inside your head about spending that kind of money on a toy. But remember, this toy is a Ferrari...! When you feel that stiff precise 430 Spider reading your mind through the curves you will be hooked for life and that is not a risk - it's a guarantee! There is a switch you can have installed (without compromising the warranty) which manually opens the exhaust tail pipe butterfly valves so you can enjoy full symphony from tick-over to rev limiter. That is highly recommendable.
Good luck,
il Capolino

Congrats and definitely go for it. It sounds like a deal that cant be missed and if there is any regret (I doubt it) afterwards, the wind in your face will dry up those tears

Excellent decision, congratulations! Do post some pics to celebrate once you've got her home.
